Ok I'm about to buy a set of tires and I've noticed that the 305-45-22's are CHEAPER than the 305-40-22's....what are the biggest advantages/disadvantages with them? I figured the 45's would give me more flex (traction) and maybe even a better ride...but other than that I'm clueless. Thanks to anyone with some advice!

Should give a better ride due to larger sidewall. If you are a quad cab it may throw shift points off because of the larger rolling circumfrence. Other than that I think they look better.:D

Yes it would, may not be too much in that size though.

WTF,Use the search key at the top.

Sorry I'm on leave (in the states right now but I'm stationed in the uk) and while looking for tires, all I have is my cell, and for some reason it won't let me search. I figured there's a lot on here already, I'm going to try and get on a computer.

Sorry man,But it just seems like most things can be answered with a search.Did not mean to be obnoxious. My bad.

Its all good, back in the UK now, and i have 305-45 nitto 420's on their way...$804 WITH shipping to the uk!!!! NOT BAD!!

Be careful with thicker sidewalls. Quick left/right steering is DRAMATICALLY reduced. Hell I got softer compound tires and they feel soooo sloppy on the highway it isn't funny.

I take it fairly easy on my truck (at least for now), just use it to go to car shows, and once in a while, work, to show it off. I just liked the look of the more full wheel wells overall. And the 45's were a bit cheaper than the 40's. If (when) i start taking it to the track, i will have another set of wheels just for that.

Ok guys, more tire questions and I'm just hopping on the most recent thread.

I'm looking at getting 305/45/22 for the thicker sidewall as I think it looks better filling up the wheel well.

Skyy mentioned reduced quick steering, is this due the taller sidewalls being weaker? Are there any other downsides to the thicker sidewalls? I thought I've read in other threads where it offers a slightly better ride.

Like I said though, my main reason for looking at 45s is strictly cosmetic. My wheels already look like the hell but the added wheel protection can't be a downside.

As always, thanks!

If your wanting the truck to perform like factory at minimum DON'T go with a thicker sidewall.;) It won't handle as well in corners.

It's a ''SPORT'' truck so don't get to carried away with HUGE side wall tires.:p

How about the change in gear ratio with the bigger tires? I've been searching around and maybe someone can back me up on this or do the math for me. Here is a link where you can put on the 2 different tire sizes and it will tell you your new effective ratio. OnlineConversion.com - Bigger Tires So what this conversion is telling me is the stock tire is 31.6" and the 45 series tire is 32.8". Input these two tire sizes and it says if you switch to a 45 series tire your new effective gear ratio will be 4.39. (is this right?) The stock gear ratio is 4.56. Is this a huge difference and will you feel this difference at the seat of your pants when driving. My reason for asking this is I've only had 45 series tires on my truck and am wondering if the 40 series make that big of difference when taking off and racing.

I run 305/45ZR22 tires and have done for several years now. I got them for 2 main reasons; 1) they fill in the wheel wells much better and make the truck look how it should - muscle. With the 1.2 extra inch in the tires, in effect, you make the truck appear lowered by that much on top of the lowering kit, as the wheel gap is much shorter to the well, if that makes sense. 2) traction. More side wall offers greater flex which equals greater traction.

No road bounce either, I personally didn't notice any difference between the 40 and 45s, the truck glides along nicely. If anything, perhaps a little softer over bumps. I didn't notice any rpm difference at 100kph/62mph, maybe 1-2mph at most with the T56? Now I run the 4L80E I have a Compushift so it's as easy as going to the tire screen size in set up and changing it to suit. For me, there were too many reasons not too, the traction factor alone should see everyone switching IMO. So many threads on traction and everyone doing minute things yet overlooking this.

40s will give you great corner speed but lets face it, if we wanted to handle corners like CARS we wouldn't have purchased TRUCKS. These beasts are straight-liners, sure they can go around tracks OK but they are at home stomping a 1/4 or on the highway hunting for food. Someone mentioned slower acceleration? I believe larger sidewalls would equal faster acceleration as the same rotation is being made by the axle but with a larger diameter tire it's covering more distance with the same rotation. Same principle applies to getting better MPG (which is also another bonus). Anyhow, me and The Batram have never heard a single complaint about them and as the driver, I have nothing but good to say about running 45 series tread under your beast. 2c

I've been running 305/45/22's for about 6 months now and the truck does ride slightly better, but I've not experienced any degredation in handling. I actually think the truck feels like it's planted better. Not sure why they are cheaper than the 40's, but I made the same change on my '09 Escalade and my '06 Sierra Denali and liked them better than the 40's that came stock on them (I upgraded from 20's to 22's on the Sierra).

I think you'll find that those who find fault with the 45's have never driven on them.
