Hello, been lurking for quite some time. I've personally met "moparmudder" from Rice Lake, Wi at an autocross this summer.

Just this past Wednesday, I was heading out to my parking lot at lunch time, started the SRT10, had major belt squeel (was in to dealer twice to have it fixed......) and as I pull out of my parking lot, I lose my power steering, but there is no more belt squeak. I pull a u-turn (boy does it turn hard) and park it. I open the hood and take note that the belt is still on all the pulleys, but it is only about 1/2" wide and the rest of it is wrapped around the passenger side suspension/tire. I then call Dodge roadside assistance and my truck is towed within 45 minutes to my local dealer (Chilsons) which is where I purchased. Turns out, the crank pulley bolt was real loose and the crank pulley stopped turning even though the engine was still running. Needless to say, the end of the crank where the pulley goes on is ruined. Dealer ordered me a new crank and all other parts....should be fixed by the end of next week. My warranty expires this October. I only have 13,100 miles. I better get in the habbit of periodically checking the torque of this fastener real soon. Man do I already miss my truck.....they gave me a darn mini-van loaner, but it is better than nothing!

There was a recall on it for the 04's, surprised to hear it happened to an 05! Hope they get her fixed soon for ya!!

yep thats a problem many have had... happend to me as well.... guess thats why the forums are good .. read up and then check your truck as well to whatever everyone says... if they say the pullys come lose they do lol... i learnt the hardway.. i was like ya ya mine isnt loose its just some jerkoff whos came lose.. guess i was wrong lol... anyway ...

Sorry to hear about the truck. Atleast it looks like the dealer is gonna get it right for you. Guess your gonna have to try pulling holeshots in ur new shaggin wagon minivan!! You will really appreciate your srt when you turn back in the family truckster for your newly repaired truck. Good Luck with the process and keep us updated. Thanks

yes, this was a problem with 04's, mine was finger tight....retightened with blue thread lock.

So, is the belt squeal a symptom of a loose crank pulley? My truck has been squealing for the last couple hundred miles or so whenever I start it up after it has sat for a few days. I had them check the bolt before I took delivery of it with 2300 miles on it back in January of '06, but now I have 7500 on it, so it is probably due for another tightening, huh?

The squeal can be an indicator, but does not mean it's the pulley.

My squealled, and all it was, was the belt. Replaced it and the squeal was gone.

usually the belt squeal is a belt and idler pulley. the crank issure is very rare with these motors now. used to be an issue in the late 90's but havent seen an issue in a long time.

Where are you in WI, anywhere close to or ever in MN, Mpls metro area? Would like to find some SRT guys that are close enough and interested an a gtg or something now and then.
Doesn't seem to be many in the MN 5 state area. I know there are plenty in this state, atleast there were lots of the trucks on the dealers lots for the year or so I was looking. Just don't see 'em around and none of the owners seem to be here. You have to be the closest to me I've come across on this forum so far. Have only come across 2 others in my area so far, 1 qc & 1rc both black, but not really interested in the forum or anything more than there own truck.

Hell Ya!

..........I am in Eau Claire. MoparMudder is in Rice Lake. There is another Ram SRT10 in my town. My bro lives in St. Paul, but my truck does not go to the Twin Cities much. (I have a family of 4) I am planning on going to Rock Falls Raceway real soon. Do you go there?

Jon

Yep, mine was replaced.

Yep, my dealer put a new idler pulley, belt tensioner assembly and a new belt on about a month ago....all covered by warranty.

holy Shit!

You know my type! I have already lined up the Mo'chine with a few cages today. Getting through an intersection, just barely missed getting t-boned becuase it doesn't accelerate like the truck!:D Yep, I already told peeps at work that my truck is gonna seem Really F'n Fast when I get it back!

This was an issue on some early trucks and 03 Vipers. It sounds like you have a great dealer, who will get the job done right.

Were within about 2 hrs. (Elk River, :30 N. of Mpls.)that's not real bad, havn't known of any gtg possibilities closer than central IL so far, I'm about :50 from WI on 94, just went thru Eau Claire a few weeks ago to Mich. and back. Ran the drags out there, 1st time w/the 10. Other than that, I'm generally not out that way. Want to do more soon, looking to go to Brainerd N. of me yet this summer (next week if I didn't already have clutch probs.). Havn't been to Rock Falls, but have heard of it and checked out there website. Would be something I'd be interested in and have thought about, just havn't had any of the others I know w/perf. vehicles and/or into drags for fun intertested or able to go also. That is a 1/4 mi. track, right?
Will be unable to go for atleast a few weeks as I'm in middle of clutch upgrade work right now. Definately interested if you're going sometime after next few weeks.

I have seen this on some production 04 Ram trucks that have had the cam recall done and many that have had superchargers installed. The balancer is a press fit and requires that the single hub bolt be properly torqued and thread sealer installed. On a SC application the balancer should be pinned or keyed.

Dan

Dan has the perfect solution!

Just slap a supercharger in, pin or key the crank and be done with it!:) :) :) :) :burnout:

Upper mid-west Folks...Here are two more in Wisconsin: Rgillart (near Oskosh) and Hilgee (Madison)...Illinois Ron (Beach Park) and I (Prof in Wadsworth) are just south of the Wisconsin border in Illinois. I think we need to think of a gtg in central Wisconsin before winter sets in! I'll start a northern midwest gtg thread...post up with your info...
