@05 Red let us know what you find100 % 0442. Could it be as simple as a bad gas cap ?

If you don't need to pass emissions i would leave it lolYou have to drop the gas tank and hope the hose is cracked or the problem ,,,. No dont have to do it either ,, so what if some fumes float out into the air .. been doing that forever ..
So who is going to do it for you hahaha
Agreed ...If you don't need to pass emissions i would leave it lol
I might have left it but the OCD in ME hates seeing an CEL on the dash.If you don't need to pass emissions i would leave it lol
Famous Brand , Evap leak detection pump for the Dakota -- $100
Standard Brand , Evap leak detection pump for a 10 -- $160
There are others ... These are on Rock Auto .. Ill bet there is no difference in operation and work on any that uses one ..
This could be the culprit also ! Its the most expensive part of the evap system next to the charcoal canaster .
CAN YOU SEE ANY DIFFERENS ? Besides the nipple directions !

getting access to a scanner and will pull the code and reset it next week. replaced the gas cap already because it kind felt a bit squishy when i fastened it prior to the code popping up.Did you get it fixed? it would be annoying for sure lol
Nice! Let us know. That would be an easy fix for suregetting access to a scanner and will pull the code and reset it next week. replaced the gas cap already because it kind felt a bit squishy when i fastened it prior to the code popping up.
To reset the codes just disconnect the battery for a few minutes .. then drve the truck for a it and see if it throws the code again ..if the code is the EVAPORATIVE SYSTEM start and inspect the hose for dry rot or cracked and replace as needed and reset diconnecting the battery again . Other than that a smoke machine put on the evap. System will show the leak .. A hell of a lot cheaper than a dealer or auto shop ..getting access to a scanner and will pull the code and reset it next week. replaced the gas cap already because it kind felt a bit squishy when i fastened it prior to the code popping up.
I'd be interested in the DIY smoke machine. can you send me the link for the smoke machine ?To reset the codes just disconnect the battery for a few minutes .. then drve the truck for a it and see if it throws the code again ..if the code is the EVAPORATIVE SYSTEM start and inspect the hose for dry rot or cracked and replace as needed and reset diconnecting the battery again . my codes are gone , i replace a few small inches of vaccum hose . I know I have another cracked hose that connect to the throttle body it may a little ove a ft. Long .. and another at the charcoal canaster under the truck anbot 3 inches of vaccum hose will take car of that ..the code is gone so I believe not a leak ,, YET LOL .
I posted a few vids on making your own cheap but very capable of doing your own smoke check of the system ... personally ill say doing those visual checks and making your own smoke machine would even ne cheaper that buyin a code reader ...
Guess who's CEL is NOT on anymore.Nice! Let us know. That would be an easy fix for sure![]()
