I currently have two Vipers (1996 TT and 2001 RT), and don't want to make the same mistake with buying a viper truck. I bought the 2001 RT to find out a few weeks later that was the year with the cast internals...:(

Is there pros and cons with the trucks and year models? I like the interior of the 2006, but looking for function and performance over looks.

Also is the QC auto tranny failing right and left? Is the QC slower?

Any input would be great, I knwo there should be a thread on this already but searches turned up nothing. Sorry if I am bringing up common knowledge for the group, just want to get it right the first time on this one! Thanks in advance.

i'm rather fond of the '05 RC:rock:   :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :burnout: :burnout: :burnout: red of course. a bit faster than the other colors:congrats: :congrats: :D

any FI the engine will have to be forged.

RC vs QC. pretty dam close

:burnout: :burnout: :burnout:

You like the 06 interior???...you are one of the few....I own an 06 but my interior now looks like a blend of 05 and 06...........since you like the 06 looks you probably would benefit from buying the 06....last year of the Viper trucks and the least made....less than 2,000 06s were made....cons...truck is 200-300Lbs heavier due to having a 2500 frame...and maybe part due to bed cover being std...........just buy the yr you want.....:)

The QC is about .7 slower than a RC if you compare stock to stock on an equal track and the RC has a good driver (hard to launch the manual)..........get a tune for the QC and the diff moves to about 3 tenths.....of course a tune for the RC might knock off 1-2 tenths.......

I love the 05, looked at the 06 and perfered the 05.
Did like some of the 06 colors, but its only paint.

05, 6 speed is the only way to go. IMHO

I have never owned a vehicle that I enjoyed more than my truck, and I have had a bunch.

Had both 04' and 06' like them both;) Whatever year you choose go with a RC.:)

have an 05 qc and love it. 6speed is a bit faster but didn't fit my needs. and the qc is pretty fast i think and haven't had any issues with it.. besides fact i need more money for the upgrades i want lol

striaght up if you plan on either one being really fast with big hp, forget it.

the hp can be made, but its a bitch to get either one to hook up well without alot of modifications to the suspension.

best thing to do is get whichever you like only differences "basically" are

05/06 uses twin piston 04 single piston front calipers

06 interior and exterior changes, plus frame change, heavier truck also

drive train basically same, 04 no knock sensor, crank sensor on flywheel, 05/06 has knock sensor, crank sensor on side of block

06's not much of a choice on catback systems ,billy boat and mopar and a couple others.

06's are the most rare, with some colors really rare

basically look see what you want and like and go to looking

if you are looking to make a really fast truck , buy a high mileage low cost, and build from there.

the auto trannys crap out with nos or too much hp

the spider gears in all years suck

clutches in manuals dont last too long

You covered it well stink...just one thing...the 06 models are limited on catbacks that are plug and play...but any competent muffler shop can move the hangers in minutes and make any 04/05 catback fit...

The Viper engine's cast internals push their luck even more with these engines installed in a TRUCK (so i.o.w. ANY year truck). When you start more serious mods that push up the horsepower much past the regular bolt on mods you NEED to consider getting better pistons and while you're at it, rods. Oiling mods don't hurt either...

The autos need some help but that really isn't a big deal. Have it built properly, maintain it and you're good to go...
Same with the manuals, they need help too (albeit a stronger clutch) when you start adding power.

Yes, the later years had knock sensors but they are limited in what they can do anyway...they won't save the engine from a bad tune.

Yup, leave it to Dodge to change something that should have been left alone.

Yeah the exhaust thing kinda was a mess for me but it turned out really good. See I bought my 06 because I like the interior better, I wasn't to into the headlights at the time now I know I made the right choice.

I also liked the interior of the 06. Truth be told, I looked at a 05 QC first. I was going to get it, but it appeared that truck had been wrecked before. With me having sports cars and this being my first truck, the QC felt HUGE. I was working one day and saw my 06 sitting at a dealer out by the street. Needless to say, I came home with it that night. :D
My biggest hang up was with those big chrome headlights. I had blackouts on them for a bit, then bought the black ones. Since then, I now have no problems with it. I think the chrome was just too much.
