Go with 2 cats, 4 cats or no cats

Thanks for all the info, I went ahead with 2 cats, magnaflow system and I went ahead and put a set of cutouts on it. It sounds great, I'm real happy with it, sounds like it has some balls now. I'll drive it a little while like this. Thanks again for all the input, Mark

mid pipes

I do believe you will need a retune.
Justin at JMB does the mid pipes.
I have them on mine.

I'm going to my buddy's shop in the morning to do some other stuff to it. Does anybody else think i need to retune it? You can feel the difference and it runs great and it sounds really good. I knew that if I cut the front 2 off I would have to retune it, the back 2 had no sensors or anything hooked up to them. What purpose do the back 2 cats serve other than a massive amount of backpressure? Thanks Mark

i wanted no cats but most of the people i hear with no cats left trucks sounds like imports...most people say leave 2 cats in for a throater sound....i want more power but really dont want the import sound myself.....

all you need is a cross over pipe and it sounds great

could the muffler shop cut off the last two??..

or anything to do with CATS they dont touch since they could be a fine for that...?

I've known my muffler guy for 35+ years, but he really didn't want to cut the front 2 off and I really didn't want to either. So he let me use the sawsaw to cut the back 2 off. I had him leave, cut them off and paid him to repair my exhaust. It sounds great, it sounds like Steve McQueen's Mustang in Bullitt. i can tell a difference in power so I'm happy. Mark

Is the stock exhaust stainless steel?
Removing cats just checking metal type.
Thanks
Adam

Mine wasn't, just regular exhaust pipe. Tomorrow I think I'll weld in a cross pipe. I wired in and finished the cutouts this morning, they look great and sound mean when opened up. They just don't have the same sound as everyone is used to. Next week I think I'll put cutouts on my 95 Lightning, its modded out so it should sound really nasty.

I went back and put a crossover pipe right before the cutouts. Sounds really good now. You can feel and hear the difference. I think I'm going to have to put the other 2 cats to sleep.

So the getting rid of the back pressure didnt affect the trucks drive ability at all ? Other than gaining 10-20 hp. No ones had any issues............

No issues other than the CEL and the smell....but the power increase is noticable..

No cats. The volume (on a B&B anyhow) is the same as a system with hiflow cats. B&B will confirm this, 2-3 different reps did when I purchased mine. I found it hard to believe but who am I to argue with an exhaust company lol. They said the sound levels are very similar, identical almost and that I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I believed them even more as the hiflows were almost triple the price as empty mid pipes lol, why would they try to sell more something that cost them a higher sale? They said the only reason to get the hiflows was if I lived in any area with emissions restrictions etc. I have them on now and it's perfect. Deep and awesome volume (loud without being obnoxious).

Thinking about his. If i take off the back 2 cats and leave the stock muffler would there be a need for a cross over pipe?
