donde es the pic of your shirt?:bandit:
I have 2 more solos for my "solo" to be finished. Then they cut the shirt and sign it. Next time, more of the same, then I go from the airport to the practice area and back for my last solo.
My instructor weighs maybe 130lbs. I was surprised how much more the plane seemed to want to climb without him. Could have just been the plane though. It was one I have flown in the past, but the last 5 or so lessons have been in a different plane.

:dontknow: Schools got a few things backwards.

Outstanding. Times have changed for the better!

Years ago...I soloed at eight hours. Instructor had me do a couple of touch and goes and on the second one, he had me stop on the runway, got out of the plane and told me to take it around three times and come in...I lost track of the number of touch and goes, did about five and he was pissed!

Great milestone.

Yea, seems like there is alot more they want you to know. OR at least at this school.
The Chief pilot wanted me to know weight and balance, as well as autopilot and "his" emergency procedures before solo.
Now, as my instructor looks at it... I dont need weight and balance for solo, nor do I need autopilot.
Emergency I learned the first few lessons, but it differs between the pilots handbook, the schools "cards" and the chief pilot. So I brought up to my instructor, what one do you want me to learn?

Your training is much more professional than mine was. On my cross countries, I really didn't understand the radio's so I turned them off and followed the roads. I was taking my fraternity brothers up for rides from uncontrolled landing strips with 12 hours...really stupid...I overflew Carswell AFB in Fort Worth by mistake and they really started yelling at me...so I turned the radio off again. Things were a lot different in the early 60's!

My wife trained about 10 years ago and she is much more profession than me too. She took the written a second time to be sure she maxed it!

I still fly from time to time when someone else is in the left seat...all these restricted areas piss me off...but I still get a kick out of the freedom available in general aviation.

Enjoy, and learn everything you can...the small shit is important...really important!

Oh yea, totally different times.

Been a bit over a month since I have gone up.
On August 2nd I lost a very close friend in a helicopter accident. This was the wife of my neighbor (the one who got me started). Sometimes refered to as my "2nd wife". There were times we saw more of each other than our own spouces. Because of this, I stopped because I knew Beth's (my wife) first reaction would be for me to quit all together. After some talking she knows that this is something I love to do, and doesn't want me to stop flying because of this. Unfortunatly I don't think she will ever get in a plane with me because of what happened.
So today, I went up again.
We flew around the pattern and did 6-7 touch and go's. Then the instructor had me taxi in, shut the plane off, and he hopped out.
I made another couple circiuts around the pattern before it started raining a bit. Got a couple take offs and landings in. Since my previous instructor didn't do the whole shirt cutting thing, this instructor wanted to. Since I was wearing my Dodge shirt that wasn't happeing :p He told me next time to wear on old white shirt. :D
