Lets talk about Tires!

I've been thinking of what tires I want to get for the truck next.

Currently I am running Goodyear Fortera's and have been pretty happy with them (they came with the truck). They have been pretty quiet and seem to last. I've driven about 8,000 miles on them and they are at about 60% or so.

They are a joke in the rain however. A slight blip of the throttle and the truck is sideways. On dry pavement they grip pretty good. My truck always barks 2nd gear with them and if I want to do a burn out- it's quite easy.

I'd like to see what tires you have, how long they have lasted, noise level, your driving style and why you bought them.

I still have the OEM Pirellis. I use my truck as a DD. I have no issues with the Pirellis, other than their replacement cost...which I need to do, soon. Two of my tires are really close to the wear indicators so replacement is a few months out. I figure I have another 7K to 9K left in them.

Several days ago, I purchased a set of Nitto NT 420S. I've heard good things about these tires and decided to try them out. Other than the Pirellis, I can't comment on another brand as I have yet to use another brand. But, I'll report back on how the Nittos perform.

I went through 3 sets of OEM tires by around 40K miles. Switched to Yokohama Prada's and got 50K miles out of that set. On my second set now which has about 25K miles on them. Very happy with them. Biggest difference from OEM is they tend to wonder far less on the highway. Oh, did I mention I got 50K miles out of the first set? Have no idea how they do in the rain. Mine is a daily driver and can't recall the last time its rained while I was driving....2-3yrs ago? :rock:

I have the yokohama prada's and they are sweet in the rain. Although my 10 is kind of a dog and needs a tune-up , I am very happy with the yokohama's. I plan on replacing them with the BFgoodrich KDW2's for the meaty tread on them ( for looks).

I've got the Pradas and they are great in the rain, but they really suck in the snow LOL

I'll take the Original Pirelli's any day. They are getting harder to find though.
I have 55,000 on mine and am replacing them now. $275.00 Americas Tire Center. Most of the other Brands of Tires are made in China now. Soft compounds = fast wear rates.

I am on my first pirelli's and I have one tire that is out of round!!! I thought the rim was bent but damn it!!! Won't buy them again!!!

Hmmm..... Well i really want 2 things out of the tire. Quiet and longevity. I want them to grip also but it's not a huge deal for me.

There have been alot of them with that issue but it's from the Trucks sitting a very long time at the Dealerships when the Sales dropped out of the market. Some Dealers had Trucks a year old still on their lots. Low tires sitting for those long time periods will ruin the Tires. Pirelli's still are a Performance Tire not like many of the Import Knock-off's.

i wont ever own a pirelli tire again i had 6 of them i went through in 10k miles on my truck first 2 the dealer replaced other 4 i bought all had blow outs or cracks in side walls or splits down the center of the tire. after that i said never again waste of money. have had graplers where decent tires lasted pretty decent right now have a set of hanhook been decent tread life sucks though figuring next set will be yoko's or bfg. since i have had issues finding graplers again.

Yes they are....I have a set and they have been great. I have also had the Conti's and although the traction was great, the wear on the corners was awful. I want the KDW's simply for maximum traction.

The Nitto 420's are hard to beat. Not expensive and work great in the rain.

I wore out my stock Pirellis at about 13k miles. I put on a set of Falken whatever they were and they suck. They are a better daily driver/rain tire but I don't dd the truck. After 100mph, they turn to pudding.

I would have to agree....NITTO 420s are definitely the best tire I've had thus far. But, I'm switching out the stock rim for 24s with nexen 305/35/24s I'll let you know what I think.

Have BFG KDW, will definitely replace with same. Not as quiet as Pirellis but I like ride & handling in all weather better.

It's very hard to beat the performance combination of the stock Pirelli tires.

The Pirelli's are a Excellant Performance Tire. Many of the others are cheap china knock offs. You get what you pay for.

Careful what you generalize....One of the largest truck tire manufacturing plants for Pirelli is the Yanzhou facility in China. :aetsch:
