Scrambler1 said:Limited slip differentials and lockers are not the same thing. A locker replaces the spider gears, eliminating the weak link. While a limited slip is better than nothing, driving with a heavy foot causes them to wear out pretty quickly. You'll find yourself spinning one tire more often. Manufactures don't offer a true locker because while they are extremely durable and perform very well on the track they have some different on road characteristics. You'll have increased tire wear due to slipping the inside tire making tight turns in parking lots or pulling out onto the street etc. Also you need to use more caution in the rain, especially when turning, it doesn't take much throttle to break the tires loose and start to skid. Personally I consider this to be GREAT funbut I understand how it can get less skilled (read average) drivers into trouble. A limited slip allows the vehicle to drive like a normal car unless you really punch it. At the track a limited slip can cause you to get sideways if the tires spin since they may or may not be receiving the same amount of power. NEVER EVER, EVER continue a burn out if only one tire spins, this is hell on the rearend and will cause spider gear death.
Like Prof and others have said, the ultimate answer is Stinker's complete axle replacement. You get the gearing of your choice, a real locker, and brakes that allow you to run a 15" rim and real slicks.[/QUOTE I like the rain going into a corner from almost dead stop 2nd gear romp on it and watch the steering wheel lock and the heart beat rise..............and I know why I bought the viper ram![]()

The one thing I learned from him and VPRPWR was Most guys blew their rear end or spiders gears by Doing a burnout and holding the brakes(ie get a line lock)...This could cause one wheel to hold completely over running the spider gears and burning out the clutches....I was lucky to learn this early on and only blew out the clutches,,,The technique I was taught was to tilt both mirror so i could see both tires while I burned out...I would glance from left to the tach to the right and repeat the other way,,,As far as breaking a c-clip, well if we had drum brakes then yeah it would be danger issue but the rear discbrake caliper mount will keep the axle from sliding out...
proper technique will allow your stock rear end to last a long time...Besides the dana 60 is no slouch at all..

I had always heard wheel hop was your spiders worst enemy. Caltracs took care of that problem for me.
