Hope everything works out for ya LB!!:)

Well it's hard to say what caused the smoking entirely.

Before anything we did a leak down on the motor to assure everything was sound. Everything looked fine. Numbers were between 10-15 % "cold". We normally run our leak down hot but didn't want to run the truck if it was hurt already. Number 10 showed a little higher at 29%.

We checked all the VEC connections and found the slave plug to be slightly pulled out.

We dropped the oil and replaced the oil with some Delo 15-40 "diesel oil". It has a high detergent and we use it to break in all our motors and my hope was that it would help re-seal some rings and clear up that smoke.

I reloaded the tune in the VEC before firing it up. With the DRB connected, we started it up and checked o2 sensor function and they were performing correctly.

Still smoking bad when we fired it up, we opted to drive it a few miles to just get all the unburn't crud out and the smoking stopped. No excessive valve train noise at all.

I put a 100 miles on it after talking to Brad and David to check oil consumption. Everything looks fine.

Brad, I know that David dialed it in first, then you went to DC for another tune for CA gas :). You told me to get into a bit to check on oil consumption. I started to and it was creeping up on some lean A/F readings, (13.0) so I added a bit of fuel and we're looking sweet at 11.7-12.0.

You could really use a breather system to help get some longevity out of this setup. A good breather system will help get rid of a lot of pressure. (it's gonna find a way out one way or another. Either out the breather or past the rings.

Truck sounds great, feels great. We have a few things we still want to check but other than that, everything looks awesome :)

Brad good to hear you have the truck running!!

Sounds like you can enjoy some relief now !!!

Thanks guys... a relief for sure:rock:

Todd, I'll give you a call on Monday. I wanna talk to you about a breather system/catch can, as well as relocating that VEC. I would really like to know what you think caused this. I know part of it was me getting the VEC wet:argh: but why was it burning oil in the first place? Did the rings just not seat right?

I have a vec3 hard plastic cover that I'm not using. You can have it if you want. I forget which vendor I bought it from but it's new and perfect shape.

Buy the extension from Roe and put that VEC in the cab. Not only keeps it dry but you can change tunes w/o leaving the cab...had mine mounted under the dash to the right of the steering wheel.

 Thanks man, I'll let you know if I don't relocate the VEC.

I think we need a pcv system in these engine. To much crankcase pressure.

Good to hear she is back up!

I've been talking with Stinker about an evac system... I think I might try it.

Is it easy to do? Where does yours come through the fire wall?

I was thinking about putting it there, or in the glove box:dontknow:

FYI there is already a hole for the vec in the back of the pocket in the truck...It was there...but I was having problems with the extension harness, and dropping tunes...so we reloacted it to where it was when you got it...and I never had a problem with it after...here is the pic from inside the cab....notice ALL the lights were on...:argh:
Happened to Jack and I at the Mopar Nat's, and the tune reloaded without incident...IF you relocate the VEC into the cab...ground it nearest to the VEC as possible.;)

FYI...it was slid out due to the prior issue...which I never had the entire trip...until I was returning from the track...reloaded the tune, and raced the rest of the weekend...drove it home (1100 miles) without a problem.

Morosso sells a evac kit using the exhaust to pull a vacuum.

TNviper has one. The only thing I'm worried about is if you have any backpressure in the system and can push pressure into the crank case and have oil seals pop out everywhere.

Thanks Ken. I think I'm just gonna leave the VEC where it is, and do my best to water proof it. Working on a breather system for it now... then she should be good to go:burnout:

That knob is gone...only took me about three years to learn the shift pattern and once I did, I got a new knob:

Wont fit in the 06 dash..smaller than the 04/05....I had mine mounted under the dash above my right leg...never had any problems....But FYI I sold the VEC and now use the SCT to tune the truck..

:marchmellow:  Man she pulls hard. No smoke... runs nice and cool. She's good to go:burnout:

The guys at A&C Performance are second to none... they really took care of me. I'm not exactly thrilled about wasting $600 on a DC tune, but you live and you learn. I know where my truck will be going from now on.:burnout:

Good to hear she up and running and running hard too:burnout:

Brad,

Glad your happy with the truck. Sorry I wasn't there when you picked it up. Hopefully you can make it down this Saturday with your truck.

There will be Vipers, Old muscle cars, some Z06's etc. We're expecting a nice turnout. We'd love to see some SRT Trucks in the parking lot. Yours would be a nice edition!

Paxton will have a booth set up. As well as Race Technologies with their Brembo setups. Free food, some giveaways, and good scenery. The whole parking lot should get filled up.

For everybody that doesn't know. A&C Performance is having an event this Saturday June 6, 2009 from 10am - 3pm. Just a meet the crew day, parts on display, some A&C Girls and a ton of horspower parked around the parking lot. Lots of Modded cars coming.
