i was at a street race last sat and a guy came up to me and asked if i wanted to race a ford. i kinda figured it was an L cuz no normal ford would compare. i told him im just checking it out for the night since it was my first time there. i later found out he had a supercharger. would a storck QC srt beat a L wit a supercharger? what about trailblazer SS
I will attempt to get it back on topic somewhat and give you my $.03 (yep 3, inflation)
The really old L - 1993 era (with a flat front end) - are a 351 motor w/o a blower, they weren't much, ok for their time, but most now would be worked and re-worked so much you wouldn't know what you have under the hood
The more modern L (slightly more aero nose and stepside box) - came with a 5.4L Mod motor with a blower - pretty much every one of those that you come across is modded, mostly I would guess heavily modded now because they have changed hands so many times - a little smaller pulley, K&N, exhaust, gears, shift kit - all easy to do, pretty cheap on the pocket and a really good bang for the buck
Unless you have done some big mods to your QC (N2O or blower) you probably are not going to hang with one of these later L's - unless they are bone stock. The older one you probably can have fun with.
The Chevy SS line is a joke right now - my buddy has the SS pick up, and he can't even try and play with me, there just is no comparison. The SS Trail is a joke also - I am pretty sure they get a little better HP for the entire SS line up, but mostly I think the SS is badging and looks at this point ( i know the cobalt gets a S/C compared with the normal car, but mostly the SS is just a little bigger or higher HP engine and it's nothing for you to worry about in the QC)
My advice to you is to get to your local track, or pick a weekend and head down to Englishtown in NJ and go race your truck there, you will get a good amount of runs in, learn how to clean your tires off, what launch RPM your tires are able to handle and see just how fast your truck is. Then as you mod your truck you can see how much faster it is with the mods you do.
I took my QC bone stock with 381 miles on it to my local track and ran it. I didn't even bring my helmet with me because all the mags had write ups on the truck saying at best they were able to get a 14.2 out of it (anything less then 14.0 requires you to have a helmet on) - my first pass was a 13.9 and by the end of the night I had it running a 13.7 bone stock!
I added the K&N cold air kit and the B&G flashed computer and it wil run 13.2-13.3 now.
Get off the streets and learn to race your truck at a track where it is safe and you have a controlled environment (i.e. no traffic in front of you) and you don't need to worry about the cops taking you to jail and impounding the truck.
