srt vs chevy ss vs lightning

If your still running factory cats id guess 13.50-13.60's. But yeah with the other cars you've got the truck is going to feel like a snail...same situation I'm in with my bike now my truck feels slow

Yes, I'm running factory cats... I'm in a smog county, and we have roadside sniffers around on a consistent basis. Do you think an aftermarket catted mid-pipe is worth much over the stock one?

Anyway... your guess proves my point. I have a good tune, filter, cat-back. The truck runs _so_ much better than it did from the factory. No question these simple mods helped a lot... but 13.5-13.6 isn't going to outrun a stock '01-'04L unfortunately. Stock... I'd imagine most QC's are 14.1-14.3 trucks.

Stay safe and have fun on the bike!! :burnout:

A stock '01-'04 L will take a stock QC 10. A stock RC 10 should be able to take a stock L. It seems to me that there are a lot of modded L's out there, probably because they are cheap (compared to the 10's) to increase performance. The SS is a slower classed vehicle.

For the money id just cut the rear cats off first, most people have noticed a bigg difference after doin that

I assume this will requie a reflash of my SCT or simulators? Don't want it throwing codes.

Ok... understood.

But I will disagree that a bone stock QC will beat a bone stock '01-04 L. I'm not talking tune, K&N, etc. Bone stock. Granted, we're talking quad cab vs. a single cab truck... the L weighs 1000lbs less, so it doesn't need nearly the power to run quick. Throw mods on either and all bets are off... you run what ya' brung.

My truck was bone stock at the time. and the lightning had an exhaust and tune. I had 6 people in my truck. Ill let the video do the talking.

I use to have a 99 L and ran 13.9 stock. The 99 and 2000 had 360 hp with 373 rear end then in 01 and later they increased the hp to 380 with 392 rear end and those were running 13.3 stock. either way you have a unique truck and as long as you are satisfied with it you shouldnt stress over it. Theres always gonna be someone faster out there no matter what you do.

You sure jumped him out of the hole... no denying that.

After that its an even race.

As anyone who is familiar with L's knows... a _stock_ '01-04 truck runs 13.3-13.5s in average air. I guess your stock QC, with 6 people in it is faster than that. Consider yourself fortunate. That's not remotely close to being the norm.

Whatever... you smoked him bad.

My '99 L ran exactly the same... 13.9/100mph and that was in 95^F heat.

My '04 L stock ran 13.35 / 103. There is no way a stock QC runs that. I'm sorry. You could beat a stock L with a stock QC... after all, there are drivers involved. :D But equal drivers, equal track surfaces... it isn't happening. I love my '05 QC, but it would get towed by my '04 L when it was stock.

And yes, the 10s are very unique... and just a great truck overall. I'm satisfied with everything about it, except that I would like it to be faster. :D

Nope. I let off. If I kept going he would have been farther behind. I had a second race against him. And I had him about 5 truck lengths,I am going to race another L in about a week or so with the same mods. I will make sure I get great video coverage.

Jay, have you run your truck at the track? Just curious. I think you have a very fast one... what are your mods now? Your sig says it is modded.

I'm just trying to see what works and what doesn't with these trucks. I'm relatively new to these.

My son bought my '04 L when I bought my '05 QC 10. With a pulley (makes 12psi vs. 8psi stock), tune, cat-back, shift kit, and CAI making a measley 393rwhp/460rwtq it ran 12.81 @ 109mph on street tires on a "good air" day here in N TX (+ 200' DA). In that truck, I will happily race a QC with a tune, CAI and cat-back, much moreso a stock one.

Where you doing that with any serious weight reduction? Or jsut really good da like in cecil?

Temp was high 40's and low DA. My best time was 12.7 @ 108. I had 1.8 60's and the weight reduction was the spare tire, jack and tailgate. Everything else was on. I think my weight was around 5400 lbs or so. I weighed the truck but I don't remember the weight.

I will attempt to get it back on topic somewhat and give you my $.03 (yep 3, inflation)

The really old L - 1993 era (with a flat front end) - are a 351 motor w/o a blower, they weren't much, ok for their time, but most now would be worked and re-worked so much you wouldn't know what you have under the hood

The more modern L (slightly more aero nose and stepside box) - came with a 5.4L Mod motor with a blower - pretty much every one of those that you come across is modded, mostly I would guess heavily modded now because they have changed hands so many times - a little smaller pulley, K&N, exhaust, gears, shift kit - all easy to do, pretty cheap on the pocket and a really good bang for the buck

Unless you have done some big mods to your QC (N2O or blower) you probably are not going to hang with one of these later L's - unless they are bone stock. The older one you probably can have fun with.

The Chevy SS line is a joke right now - my buddy has the SS pick up, and he can't even try and play with me, there just is no comparison. The SS Trail is a joke also - I am pretty sure they get a little better HP for the entire SS line up, but mostly I think the SS is badging and looks at this point ( i know the cobalt gets a S/C compared with the normal car, but mostly the SS is just a little bigger or higher HP engine and it's nothing for you to worry about in the QC)

My advice to you is to get to your local track, or pick a weekend and head down to Englishtown in NJ and go race your truck there, you will get a good amount of runs in, learn how to clean your tires off, what launch RPM your tires are able to handle and see just how fast your truck is. Then as you mod your truck you can see how much faster it is with the mods you do.

I took my QC bone stock with 381 miles on it to my local track and ran it. I didn't even bring my helmet with me because all the mags had write ups on the truck saying at best they were able to get a 14.2 out of it (anything less then 14.0 requires you to have a helmet on) - my first pass was a 13.9 and by the end of the night I had it running a 13.7 bone stock!

I added the K&N cold air kit and the B&G flashed computer and it wil run 13.2-13.3 now.

Get off the streets and learn to race your truck at a track where it is safe and you have a controlled environment (i.e. no traffic in front of you) and you don't need to worry about the cops taking you to jail and impounding the truck.

Best advice yet.......:)
