The Engine Build

Been 30 years, not sure. I might pay for the best around to assemble, that way I won't miss something that I know nothing about. I want to get it balanced as well. Wondering about flywheel lightening too.

I don't think an engine with a 97 pound crankshaft would notice the lighter Flywheel.
These engines make gobs of torque just off idle. You will have even more with the Strikers.

As the Owner, it's up to you.

The rotating assembly will have to be rebalanced, regardless.

Hope the engine works out well for you.

Next Question, should I heat wrap the headers.
Keeps underhood heat down,
Aid in scavaging,
The heat wrap tends to look grundgy as sin and gets worse over time.. Coating could be a better option aluminum? Ceramic ? Which would hold the looks ! .. I’m not sure that scavenging is going to get improved but less heat under the hood is a benefit … cool air = denser are and more power lol … we all know that the trucks run stronger when the temps get cool compared to the hot ass summer heat days .. that’s why I ve asked about a true ram air system that doesn’t suck in the under hood heat ..

Between Florida summers 345 days a year haha and inter week my truck comes alive like it gat a new hyper Tune .. very noticeable difference..

Hmmm , maybe a freon injection system would keep it cool and give more power with detonation protection .. OR FROST BITE .

From past posts even the Volant s ineffective as the scoop is for heat removal and a low pressure area per the big ape Silverbacks test .
There are a few that have modded the air intakes to a more true ram air system on here and pics in the media section .. Dom’s truck smoke of them … the other is a stock box with an added tube piping tha actually looks good and brings in a more direct outside air . Sealed decent ! The factory air intake is a better option IMO as it is sealed and pulls in cooler air thru the grill , but the grill baffles I think restrict the air flow somewhat .

Anything that can remove the heat from the engine compartment is no doubt a benefit for power since heat is a killer .

Tidying up the intake manifold where bolts to head.
Taken out 1mm just a slight flare.
Same with headers, just a tidy as I don't want to weaken the welds

The gasket holes are huge.
I noticed the spark plugs no longer reach the chamber. Must need different ones.

I am going to take the valves out and round off the sharp edges too
I wonder if the milling marks help stir up charge or should they be polished out.

Polishing from what I seem to remember is beneficial to flow on an intake and probably on the exhaust side also .. Most heads combustion areas I’ve seen are usually mot excessively mill marked and many hypo heads get polished … no idea on the strikers and maybe those mill markets are buy design . Ronnie may have the answer .. @rottenronnie WHERE ARE YOU ?
