The Official "Overhaulin' Dale (tinygiants)" Thread

I just got a call from Eric. John Edwards (donating his time and talents) built the engine. After building, he took it to Arrow (donating their time and talents) for the burn in dyno run. Without the blower the engine made near 600 hp. All systems were operating as they should. I am very excited.

Actually, I was misinformed about the HP. It was about 565HP, but close to 600 pound-feet of torque. The "low" HP number is likely a result of the reduced compression ratio, which should rebound nicely with the Roe on top of it.;)

I should be getting tracking info soon.

Now, where did I put Dale's truck?:D

Yep. Picked up the engine this last Thursday.

Need to finish up my truck, then it and my '68 Charger sit outside while Dale's truck goes back together.

you can park it in my GAR :p :p :p

I just got the break in tune from Sean at Roe Racing. So we should have a nice safe tune to fire it off with when the time comes.

Yes I know. I hope to get some pics tomorrow.

Eric and I made good progress today. We have the engine in the bay, bolted to the mounts, and all the accessories are mounted with the belt on.

I am very excited.

These are pictures from the start of our day.

Tonight we got the rest of the transmission bolted together, a few more connections on the VEC harness, a few more hoses, and the headers hung.

Due to my surgery tomorrow and my daughter nights, I will not be able to work with Eric again until Friday. His help and guidance in this is greatly appreciated.

This was pretty much exclusively a bottom end redo. The crank and rods were salvaged, but we went with new pistons (lowered the compression ratio a bit and coated the tops) and installed new sleeves in the bores. The top end was just freshened up (heads were gone through by Jeff Morys of Striker head fame), although it had some previous head work and custom cam grind done.

I'll keep at it over the next few days as much as I can (managed to really screw up my back last Monday reaching in and lifting the AC compressor as it was falling down), and see if we can't have this beast on the road come Saturday for Dale's event. ;)
