The Stop Smoking Thread

I have never smoked Tobbacco :D :p I have dabbled with Weed ;) :D Hell who in the Hell am I kidding   I will prolly die of green lung LOLOLOL Kudos Brad......One day I will quit dipping...hopefully before my jaw falls off  :D

I just got back from filming the wedding. I must have thought of a cig at least 500 times but am proud to say I did not give in at all. I have passed the magic 24 hour period. Tonight was hard. Everybody thought it was a joke that I was quitting and was offered cig after cig and as tempting as it was I was able to just say NO. I thought of that website that another member here says he checks everyday. All it says is NO. I didn't even have 1 beer because that would be even more difficult. I hope my wife had an easier time.:dontknow: I've been at work all day dreaming bout cigs. I hope time makes it a little easier.

We had a guy here at work who smoked at least every 10-15 minutes. He retired oct 1 and for the month before he retired he quit cold turkey also, I think it was because his doctor or someone like that had some illness from smoking. He was chewing some type of gum and eating a lot of beef jerkey (I guess to keep his jaws busy with something other then smoking). I would have bet money he would have started up again but for the month up to when he left he didnt smoke (that I know of).

Remember, every hour without one is a victory.

Good job yesterday...

Get one more day under your belt...

You and your wife need to get your minds off smoking...try something new!

Roy

I quit 3 months ago cold turkey...and after hanging with a couple of the guys and smoking cigars, i am right back smoking 3 packs a day again...going to be quitting again soon...all the luck my friend, its a hard battle.

The best way to do it is not to quit.......

You and your wife, just don't smoke.........

You guys are not smokers, so if you don't smoke, it is a lot easier. Then you don't have to quit.

We just built a gym at work..Weights, treadmills, elliptical machines, etc..We have a personal trainer coming in 3 days a week, and a nutritionist coming in as well. We are setting up a Biggest Loser" type challenge..Its 100.00 to get in, and whoever loses the biggest % of body fat over 90 days, wins the money. Theres a 500.00 bonus for going 90 days without smoking. Potentially, you can win a few grand from this contest, along with any side bets you may make..December 1st is the start date..I will be quitting then..My goal is to stop smoking, and lose about 20lbs in 90 days, and then keep losing till I lose about 50 lbs total.
I tried the patch, gum, and Chantrix to quit, but none of them worked. I wonder if I take Chantix, wear the patch, chew gum,and eat beef jerkey, if that will work...I have smoked for over 35 years..about a pack a day..At current prices, Thats about the cost of my truck NEW..55K to poison myself, and the ones around me..what a dumbass I am sometimes..

Great Riff! Sooooooooooo happy to hear it. Your company is on track to lowering its insurance premiums in a big way, assuring a happier more productive work force, and just plain doing the right thing.

Jump in with both feet. The program you have set for yourself is noting but good...no down side, if you achieve your goals great, if you don't quite make it the effort is still all good!

Seldom serious but…:D
Exercise, change your routine, and do not go where there will be smoking. Even if it is a friend or family that smokes ask them not to do it around you. That’s where the fraise “Nothing worse than an X-smoker” comes from. :thefinger: Peer pressure got you to smoke and it will certainly get you to Restart. Some people who smoke quietly hope you will fail as they are unable or unwilling to quit.
I have a “small” OCD issue which I have harne$$ed in my last 15 years with hobbies but before that I was a chain smoker (3 packs a day). Quitting was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I do not envy you but I can tell you it was THE BEST thing I have ever done for myself!   I also had to give up drinking and quit for about 8 years as I was drinking a case a day after quitting smoking to reduce the anxiety from quitting smoking. It didn’t help the anxiety, it just made me pass out and not smoke… :puke: I used the gum but that just made me think about smoking. I bought a pack of Dutch master mini cigars and I picked 2 times a day that I would light up “BUT” and this was the hard part, I didn’t inhale. (Not a Clinton quote) I just puffed. After a week or so they began to smell bad. I don’t believe in religions. I do believe in God. So a lot of praying helped. Make a deal with your God it finally worked for me. 15 years smoke free. I am a NON-smoker and will never smoke again.
:canabis: This either...:bawling:

GOOD LUCK and DON'T CHEET and don't keep score on each other!!!

Quitting will also offset the increase in gas prices. You won’t even notice  :elefant: :elefant: :elefant: :elefant: :elefant: :elefant:

Later I'll post jokes about this...

I am ready to quit mentally. I just needed a push like the recent purchase of VnmPwrd (J.T.) truck.

The wife has smoked for 23 years and I have smoked for almost 20 years. We quit cold turkey last night. I used to smoke a pack a day and the wife 3/4 pack a day. This is really testing my will power and the wife is already showing off her fangs.

I don't think patches or slowing down is an option for us. Has anybody else quit cold turkey after a couple decades of smoking? If so what are your suggestions?

Please give us any ideas that will make this road a little less bumpy.

Thanks,
Brad

Brad, congrats on quitting....

About 5 months ago, I quit dipping snuff after over 15 years of Copenhagen....also, I quit smoking, but I was more of a social smoker for the most part.....no patches, no pills, just cold turkey like you.....the first three weeks were hell.....I had to drink a couple of glasses of wine or a couple of beers each night so I could sleep.....it sucked....but I am glad I weathered the storm....also, do projects and try to stay busy, even at home....

Good luck and keep the faith....you can do it....

My Dad smoked 2-3 packs a day till he had a heart attach. I was not born yet, but my mother was 7 months pregnant with me.....

He decided from that day on he was done smoking if he could make it....he made it, and threw every pack he had away. Since 1981 he hasn't touched another cigarette.

I decided not to drink. I went from a 40 oz bottle a weekend plus whatever we drank at the bar down to maybe 2 drinks a month at the most.

That was 12 years ago. I do believe a change in routine helped.

The both of you can do it!

Use the Larry hagman wrist snapper rubber band----take deep slow breaths when the craving for a drag comes---think of the money savings and mods you can do with the extra cash----don't drink or party....keep your hands busy and mind away from the thought of a cig.... and remember that they use to call cigs ,,FAGS,, I don't recommend any of the patches or gums ---I tried the gum 1 time and it gave me sharp head pain and disiness not to mention a very sick feeling in the gut...(probably a nicotine overdose) Nictotine is one of the most toxic substances known to man----NIKE says "JUST DO IT"........I wish I could!!!! Mybe I'll take my own advice and try now.....

You could have sex every time you crave a cigarette… :dancing:

So think of a cigarette as some white guy’s tallywacker. You really don’t want to put that in your mouth, DO YOU??? Of course a cigar would be a black guy’s… :D

After 76 attempts with great excuses as to why I failed, it was pure determination, and nothing else, that got me through it.

Buy a heavy bag.
You and the wife can whack it instead of each other when the aggravation sets in… :banghead: :boxing::fight:
Don't forget the sex thing...

I used the patch and it was surprisingly easy which was almost 1 year ago. The urge seems to remain but dismissing it gets easier.

Prof, My boss and I are the same age and we are both getting the middle age spread..We have talked about doing this for the last few years, and are finally going to give it our best..He has committed the resources, and I have built the gym, so, we are going for it..This it just the beginning. We have lots of plans to get and keep everyone healthy.
We have a great group of people that it has taken 10 years to assemble. Rick, the owner is committed to retaining everyone he can, and is going to great length to make sure we stick around..He cares deeply about our well being, and had done some really amazing things for us. This is just the latest..

What an informed approach. I have lots of clients I try to take in that direction but it is a very tough sell. Your boss is a keeper!

I quit smoking cigarrettes in 1981..... Smoked a pack of Camel straights a day for about 17-18 yrs....

Day 3 was the worst...... Was a black fkn day.....

Haven't smoked a cigarette since...... But I have a recurring dream that I'm trying to buy a pack of camel Straights and either the store's closed or they're out of Camel straights....

Smoke a fkn cigar........ You don't inhale.....
