The Stop Smoking Thread

I used to smoke two packs of Marlboro lights/day. Then I almost lost my life at the age of 27 to pneumonia. I was so sick that I lost over 30 pounds in one month. The fever was unbearable. I had hallucinations, and the pain (from the fever) made me actually want to die. The worst was when I was so weak, I couldn't even make it up the 13 steps in my house.

In the end, I sustained permanent damage to both lungs, with the worst scarring on my left lung. I still try sometimes to smoke, but I can't. If I even have 2 cigarettes in an evening of drinking, my chest feels like it's rotting from the inside out and I can't breathe.

So that's how I quit smoking. I was basically forced. My body can no longer handle it. It hurts me to smoke now, and it's no longer the least bit pleasurable.

We've officially passed the 1 week mark and counting. It is getting a little easier each day.
Congrats you two!! :D :D Just remember, when you want to smoke - shift instead

You are already much healthier...and while still having to work very hard...you bodies are pretty much clear of the physical affects of nicotine. You still have very strong psychological ties to smoking. It is now a battle in your mind. Continue to avoid those things that tempt you...make sure right now that if you have held on to a stash...that you send someone to get it and get rid of it.

Remember every hour you spend with out cigarettes is a victory.

Great work! Keep it up.

Well we both made it past Thanksgiving dinner. I am really proud of my wife for keeping her word. I am really surprised I made it this far and now It's getting easier each and every day. We are thankfull for all the support the VTCOA has given us on beating this addiction. We have won each battle but the war is still ongoing.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

We all smoked.

Quitting was very difficult, but for me too, one of the most important things I ever did for myself.

WRONG!!!!:p

Back in 7th grade I was offered a cig. Took one puff, burned the back of my throat, and that was the END of me smoking!

IMHO, I do not see how anyone can enjoy smoking when they first start, and the only reason they continue is to 'be cool'.

Unfortunatley I did but have not in 22 yrs....but my younger brother (47 now) has never even had an unlit cig in his mouth....wouldnt even date a girl that smoked no matter how "smokin" good she looked....I, on the other hand, had much lower "cull" standards..;)

Update:

The wife and I are still smoke free from Nov 11. The cravings are still there but a lot easier to deal with. I don't feel "OFF" any more. My energy levels have gone up. My sense of taste and smell has improved. I'm not coughing any more and I feel healthier.

Thanks for the continued support.
