no offense Daniel...as you know I love your tonneau..but my friend who is a dealer for those and snuglids recommended the snuglid..he said that the speedster and others tend to sag over time.....i was going to get one like yours and he told me to keep the snuglid....again...i love the look of the speedster lid though....
I checked out the LazerLite site. It looks pretty cool. Question: Why can't the cover sit flush with the bedrails?
really? my dad had a speedster on his 99L its been on since 99 just saw the the truck yesterday 7 years later and no sagging or anything:dontknow:
Snugtop SL I installed a Snugtop SL (w/remote control release) on my truck and reinstalled the factory wing right to it when I repainted the truck. The lid actually swings up like a car hood (sort of up and away from the back window). This was the best solution I could come up with 2 years ago. Mark
It has a rubber seal that goes all the way around the bed for a water tight seal. In the picture it was just install it was a little high for my taste as well, but in a few weeks the weight of the cover matted down the seal. Now its about 1/8 of an inch off the bed. If you go the Laser Lite route you won't be disappointed. I installed it myself didn't have to drill any holes in the bed. It took about 45 minutes to install including a trip to the auto part store to buy some larger bolts to mount the wing. Also its about half the weight of a fiberglass cover.
Thanks for the info. I'm still shopping around for some type of bed cover. I will eventually end up with both a tonneau and a cap (SnugTop TopGun) for my trips to Orlando with all my gear. Has anyone noticed any sort of measurable MPG increase after adding a tonneau? Any other changes (good or bad)?
I have had a cover on my last 4 trucks, mainly for the looks, however I would always gain an average of 1.5-2mpg. definatley does not hurt it.!
I got an email from Peragon earlier this week after asking about covers for our trucks WITH the wing in place: "Hello Kevan, Thank you for your interest in our bed cover. Our cover will not work on the SRT-10 with the wing. Please let us know if you have any other questions. - Rebecca I'd love a description, or to see some pics, of your "adaptation" of the Peragon so it works on the truck.
I got the same response when I asked that question. I went ahead and got it anyhow and customized it to fit. I'm getting ready to head out the door right now but I'll get some pics of what needs to be done to make it fit this afternoon and post them.
Awesome, Silvr! Thanks man! There are so many covers out there, all with pluses and minuses, I decided the Peragon one was as close as I could get regarding features, strength, security, and price. Then I got that email. You should send the pics to Peragon as well. I'm sure they'd be happy to know that with a little customizing, their cover can work on our trucks.
Peragon Pics Here are the pics I promised hope they work for ya. First one shows the clearance between the wing and the cover rail. This shows the notch that needs to be cut to clear the wing. When I have time I'm going to clean this up by giving it more of a contour. I was in a hurry when I first installed it. This shows how the cover comes under the wing. You may need to spacer the wing up a little to clear the weather stripping. This is with the tailgate down showing the rail from the end. Like you, it was the best option for me at the price I wanted to pay. Lockable hard cover, opens and closes without removing wing and the price was right. Cons: It isn't 100% waterproof. I keep stuff in plastic bins. This keeps them dry and from rolling around the back of the truck. It has a slight rattle. It's not bad. I only hear it with the slider open but I'm working on quieting it. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask. I don't think Peragon really cares. Limited number of truck, Cost of R&D to customize. If they were interested, they would have looked into it when I inquired a while back.
How mant times do I have to say this.....? http://www.pace-edwards.com/bedlocker.asp It rules.....It's trick......It's remote and automatic.....It's expensive....So what? SD
