Tremec / Centerforce problems..

Royal purple makes a good 75/90 weight synthetic and so does moble 1. I run the rp 75/90 gear oil and no problems.

I use and Tremec recommends Mobil One ATF, it works fine...and so does the Royal Purple mentioned above.

I went back to the factory fluid after a quick try of Mobil 1 ATF. The lighter SYN ATF made the gears whine and sounded as if a rebuild was near. My truck sounds and shifts better with the stock factory fill.

Well folks, managed to change out the fluid.. Here are some pics of the job.

I'll give it about 300 miles before i decide whether or not to do the rebuild..
Also, because of how i did this does it matter if i'm at 3.3qrts or 3.7qts? I tried
to get around 3.5 but to factor in what was left in the hose i could be shy
or over by about .2 not sure if it matters but i figure i would ask :)

Wow...that is inventive!

I meant for you to just pull the shifter lever (four bolts) and pour the fluid into the top of the transmission!

But what you did was pretty kewl!

I would still bleed out the clutch after changing too MOTUL 600 Syn Brake fluid.

I would bet that fixes your problem!!

Thanks for the comments Roy and Patrick! Yeah it took a second to figure
out how i wanted to do it but it wasn't bad after i set it up.. Just time
consuming!! Gravity etc etc.. MarcT, in this thread i posted a while back
a picture of my slave cylinder and asked how i should go about bleeding
it.. I'm still not real sure how to bleed it :dontknow: :D :D Do i just
unscrew that top part coming off the cylinder? :dontknow:

Andrew

hey westx what a sweet selection of rides u have wow !!!! thought i was dreaming !!! lol
Thanks...i think the Challenger is my favorite now since its so easy to drive.

SHARPIMAGE...its easy to bleed the clutch but two people are needed. Crack the bleeder screw 1/8-1/4 turn while depressing the clutch petal....then close the bleeder and release the clutch. Do that about 12-15 times while maintaining the fluid level in the reservior. I'd use DOT 3 fluid for now, the expansion rate of syn. can cause release problems.

Appreciate the how-to Westxsrt10! Any particular brand of DOT3 you
would recommend?

Any DOT 3 or 4...stay away from Dot 5 or Dot 5.1

gotcha, thanks bud  Once the weather clears up i'll be going and
getting some DOT3/DOT4 fluid and see if that helps at all.. I'll keep you
folks posted, with pictures of course! :D

I would use Motul 600. IT seems to have helped mine out ALOT.

Alittle History:

I got the centerforce and Viper master/Slave Cyl. Upgrade. Had it installed at about 13,000 miles on it. I broke the clutch in just like instructed. That is hard to do! But anyways in 1500 miles the release piont was changing every time I shifted. I was on a road trip and just made it back to town and stoped at a red light and that was all she wrote. The trasns was toast. To this day I have NO idea why.

But now I recenter my shifter about every oil change. And Change the fluid to Motul 600 and have had no Issues.

The Motul 600 is for performance bike and seems to hold up against the heat very well.

Great Info Here!!

There use to be a sticky on how to bleed the clutch system!! Maybe someone can help here??

Glad you found that Marc. I had never read that post before and did not know how to properly bled a clutch. Boomer had written a sticky back on the original... nfff site.

Great info guys.

Alright folks i'm in the middle of bleeding the clutch system and i've followed
Tony's instructions and then i tried Westx's instructions.. The pedal is
coming up fully but damn does it feel squishy... I've bled any air from
the system according to Tony's instructions but i'm still not getting
the right pedal feel.. It's just too squishy. Also, when i bled it according
to Westx's post on pg 3 it barely dribbled out as apposed to squirting out. :dontknow:

Basically i have my dad in the drivers seat press the pedal slowly and when
he starts he tells me to start so i open the bleeder screw and let it drip
then before the pedal is on the floor he tells me to close it so i close it.
Then he releases the pedal slowly and we repeat the process. We've done
this about ten times now and the pedal feels no more firmer
then it did after bleeding.. Am i doing something wrong?

Sounds like you did it right.... I have the Viper slave/master with the ACT clutch and the petal pressure is about 20-25% firmer than stock. How does it drive?

I have the centerforce stage II so it should be pretty tuff.. But it actually
doesn't engage and i just gravity bled it three more times and did the
pump-bleed-release technique slowly three more times and it's still pretty
soft. :(
