how do you check for the codes when your check engine light comes on?

YEAH THATS WHAT I WANT TO KNOW TO...
But that must have took for ever to set and take time
to put all that on here!!!
so thinks for thinking of us!!!

to check codes when check engine light comes on,turn your key off then on three times slowly, then the codes will come up,when done it will say "p-done".then to reset codes, take off your negative batt cable, turn your key on and hold your push start button for 30 seconds then, turn key off and put neg. cable back on.

Very good information. I knew there was a way but did not know how.

Great thread. Just printed them off and have stored them in my "case of goodies" in the Ram's 2nd console. One question, when a CEL comes on, and it has for me (twice) I pull over, did the 3 clicks of the key and saw what the number was. I was 4 hours from home and without these codes. Question, even if I do have these codes what can I do? Some of these aren't exactly in layman terms and even when I do understand them and I'm miles from home there isn't much one can do, correct? Do I simply just clear the code doing the neg. battery trick and never think of it again? Or? It has to be coming on for a reason so when we're away on trips or out driving, any advice on what someone should do? I have an SCT with me in my "bag of goodies" and installed Roes tune and it cleared for me. I'm guessing we see what the code equals, clear it then take it to a dealer/service shop at the next available opportunity if it's urgent? Just curious and at the same time wanting to know what to do when these times come about, it's better to be prepared. :)

Thanks,
Carl

OOOOR, if you have an SCT tuner.. You could reset the codes with that handy device..

and thats somthing venom learned at gtg in panama city ,,,so see you can learn stuff at these too

Anyone ever come across code 455? thats what ive been getting and my truck has been idleing rough. if i reset the computer it idles fine until the check engine light comes back on about 70 miles after i reset it

I would think that if it had an evaporator leak that it would idle rough even after resetting the computer immediately

Im throwing a code of p0123 it showed up after i tuned my trk ive changed out the tps sensor twice nw both were checked out and were bad have a new one on nw and its still throwing the code is there anything else i might try to fix it thanx for any help trk is a 05 rc

From page 1 of this thread.

I think the TPS isn't installed correctly. Re-Install it.

TSBs And DTCs Check Engine light Codes

My CMax energi has also had the check engine light come on several times. The first and second time the dealer reset the computer saying it was a computer error. The third time they replaced the evap purge valve saying it was faulty. The light just came on for a fourth time. I am guessing that the evap purge valve may not have been the issue. Any thoughts?
