Tubbed the Bed

Yea there is so much additional unsprung wieght added that it should definitely be a crappy ride! Nice work though!
I do not think there is that big a difference.

The axle is lighter than stock. Stinker, what is the difference in your unit and the stocker? I think it was in Profs thread on the DTS install.

Yes the tires are heavier (they weigh 58 lbs), but the stockers are about 45 lbs (tirerack.com).

The rims I bet are a wash. I bet the extra width is equal in weight to the reduction in diameter of the rim size.

So if the axle assembly is 26 lbs lighter, I should be about the same as stock.

Nice.

Now all you need to do is learn how to set up and adjust a 4-link suspension.;)

Maybe you and I go in on some software for doing the calculations, eh? (I'll need it for the Stude.):D
Sounds good Eric. How much are we talking for that?

Got some weights today.

The old wheel and tire combo weighed 86 lbs.
The new fronts weigh 75 lbs.
The new rears weigh 95 lbs. For 10 lbs more I have nearly twice the contact patch. And the new axle is about 100 lbs less. So the savings in the rear is 80 lbs.

The suspension is almost done. Tomorrow we hook up the driveshaft, brakes, and the panhard bar.

And yes they did cut the frame more than I wanted. I will be seeing another shop over the winter.

Why on earth did they have to cut it in the first place? Seems that they could have welded some material to the inside of the frame to locate the 4-link assembly in a couple of inches, making it unnecessary to cut the frame to clear the brackets on the axles. Any particular reason they didn't want to move it in (or out, for that matter) by a couple of inches to prevent having to cut the frame?:dontknow:

On the 4-link software, we're only looking at $80.00 for a download copy of the program.

I had a chance to talk with my fabricator today. I feel better about the build now. There were extra gussets added in around the fabrication points on the frame. Also I was able to look over the real size of the frame material. Our stock frame rails are huge compared to the frames that come in a back half set up. So my initial reaction was based on seeing a smaller section than I anticipated vice an actual functionality aspect. He is standing behind his work and guarantees it to pass tech inspection as well as hold up to the normal use I intend.

It will be on the ground with brakes bled tomorrow. Now where is that engine....?

Still, couldn't the four link install been done entirely without cutting the frame?:dontknow:

Drop a little inspiration in Joes ear, and I would be glad to oblige.
Tomorrow we talk to the NHRA Guys to see what can be done inside a QC for a Roll Bar. The rule books do not really say anything other than the B hoop must be supported by the Brace at a certain angle. In a QC that just ruins the back seat. I would rather box it to a C hoop and then brace through the cab to the bed. We will see.

Thanks for the compliment.

I honestly hope he has my engine shipped by the end of next week. After all, we did start just the engine in December and it was supposed to be about 6 weeks (at the mercy of parts).
