My motto is and always will be: "less is more". Keep it simple, stick to 1-3 basic colours and colour coordinate things. Do what works best for YOUR truck, not someone elses. I pulled my bay apart and painted everything black that wasn't black, including the bare iron block. Lots of things often overlooked like the actual block, stands out like dogs balls. By going black on quite a few items, regardless of what colour your truck is, it helps them to merge in with their surroundings and become "invisible" which is what gives the clean appearance.

The block and the heat shield silver foil at the back of the engine bay were two of the main things that annoyed me most prior to stripping it down. All better now! Here's a list of some of the things I did to mine in the garage...ahem, I mean, in The Batcave. It's far from everything I did, but I hope it helps and gives you some ideas! 3 of the most important things IMO to an "award" worthy engine bay or car are: keep it classy, keep it subtle and keep it clean.
