Welcome to the VTCOA and Red button club. What serial Badge is your NR? I would keep the Volant intake on Mine has one and it creates alot of HP for my beast. I got mine all blacked out with the headlights and tails. Cops love it for sure. They pull me over just to take a look. Also Repaint the calipers and add VIPER LETTERING Looks really cool.
#346/400. Word is still out on the intake.. I like that it has the box to keep warm air out, just dont like the snorkel blocking the air to the motor. Thanks for the welcome and the advice..
Interesting. I have googled all the tops and from wiki.. "The hood scoop allowed cool air to enter as well as forcing hot air to exit from the engine bay, thus helping the engine to run cooler." Thanks for that info.. any articles related to this or other aero on the truck.. I wounder if I can get a plug and take it off just making it a nice filer box.
That statement is sort of correct. At high speeds the hood scoop does allow air in, which acts to prevent aero lift....maybe some cooling. But it's main purpose is to let hot air out at stationary or low speeds.
The hood "Scoop" is an air EXTRACTION scoop that becomes MORE effective at high speed....It was placed in a low pressure area of the hood intentionally See post #24, #25 and #27.... http://www.vtcoa.com/forums/f7/hood-scoop-insert-56945/ Post #29 will explain how the hood EXTRACTION scoop assists in diffusion cooling... http://www.vtcoa.com/forums/f8/adding-more-air-63478/ And post #8 here... http://www.vtcoa.com/forums/f7/grill-inserts-60731/ Finally, post #56 dive's deeper into the "Hood Scoop" issue.. http://www.vtcoa.com/forums/f8/full-exhaust-93oct-tune-results-48629/index6.html Cheers!
That is great info Psycho, good read thanks! I was wondering too.. WHY would Mopar make that CAI with that fugly tube location and then the snorkel? I bet SRT engineers were.. :stupid: I want to get a stock intake box and tube for my 06... anyone have one?
Your welcome I find Aero and hydro dynamics interesting. I learned on my 89' Kawisaki ZX10 how much a small thing(s) like a rear view mirror poking out into the wind can slow you down. As I started to learn to ride at sustained high speeds (over 150) on Wisconsin country roads, I'd observe my mirrors being push in towards the faring above 120. So I'd pull em' in before the run to gain speed. A few mods later and my ride was as fast as my friend (who owned the Kawi dealership) who rode a new ZX11. He was shocked!! Aero mods (cheap) and a pipe/jetting and we were even  Check out this cool read and think about our unique trucks and all the "little" things add up to a Hippopotamus that knows how to run AND Dance.... Aerodynamic Tips and Tricks You Can Use for Better Performance - Hot Rod Network Re; the MOPER CAI kit??? The ONLY possible reason I can come up with is to utilize the the draw from the hood scoop to evacuate air from the sectioned off filter area. So cool, outside air is fed into the fender from the grill block off scoop and then drawn into the large isolation chamber that the tube and filter are setting in. Kind of a "flow through" design once under way. Cheers!
Sure thing but your 10 has that massive radiator and fans to cool that viper motor. Remember all SRT's run hot. The snorkel doesn't bother me a bit.
Thanks.. I have called twice with a promise of a call back when his guy can get out and see if they have one. None have been returned. I can call again as I know they have a lot of wrecked 10's.
06 QC Night Runner checking in from Wisconsin Ha Ha thanks for the heads up wha. Sounds good kev, hope to be out there a bunch Ill be going tomm and Thursday and hopefully Saturday . DO yall involve yourselves in any of the races out there ?
I have a NR fill her up 10 quarts 0W40 Mobil One Full Synthetic no issues does not burn oil and the dipstick reading is fine. May be it was factory error.
