I think another problem is that certain mods feel the need to edit posts based on what appears to be their own personal feelings.

I have a huge problem with mods policing the "offensive" section. It happens all too often. Clearly, if you're easily offended than stay out of the "offensive" section.

I'll be 39 years old next month and I have never smoked weed. In my youth, I was always able to abstain from the peer pressure. As an adult, my confidence level has never dropped to a level that I felt I needed an artifical change agent in my life.

That's all good and well for you, and you should congratulate yourself. Obviously, for whatever reason, it's not for you. You made a choice, and stuck with it. Bravo.

There are, however, far more reasons than a lack of confidence for sparking a marley or pouring some JD, and not all of them are bad. Not everyone who consumes drugs and/or alcohol has to have a reason to do so. If I'm at a buddy's house playing cribbage and he packs a bowl, sometimes I'll partake and sometimes not. If I'm at a bar, I might elect to have something non-alcoholic. I'm simply not compelled to do it.

Perhaps I'm more the exception than the rule. Still, there are plenty of others like me who just happen to believe that you can do something like smoke pot now and again for no particular reason, and without having it impact your life any more than having a few brews.

My point is that you don't have to be looking for some kind of "escape from reality" or need to compensate for a personal shortcoming to smoke or drink. Further, if you do smoke or drink, you are not automatically "using". For some yes, for others it's not that way at all.

From time to time every family (this one included) has disagreements. They are as common as dirt... Unfortunately, some members are highly averse to any kind of argument, reacting with some trepidation at any inkling of an online pissing match... They suggest that the VTCOA is no place for this kind of activity and to "take it outside" (PM)....

Now, I think that maybe I owe everyone that smokes pot an apology. Maybe I should have used the word "confident" rather than "confidence", in the context that I have always been confident in my decision to refrain. I in no way was insinuating that those that did were any lesser of a person than I am. My best friend does from time to time, just not around me or my family.

I am a parent with strong convictions on the matter, and yes, I would most definitely try to steer my children clear of ever experimenting. My fear--albeit possibly exagerated, would be that the first time would lead to addiction. Whether you agree with that or not, I hope you understand my concern as a daddy.

So although I do not apologize for the stance that I take on the matter, I do apologize to flchub and anyone else that felt my comments were intended to belittle anyone.
