FREAKING DEALERS

I don't think it's cool that his warranty was voided but I don't feel bad for the guy, either. It is what it is.

i feel bad for the guy. he flat out got screwed. intake and exhaust mods have nothing to do with transmission problems. the service manager didn't have to be such a prick and blackball his truck in the system. he could have just called him and said "we won't touch it because of the exhaust. come pick it up."

The 2 mechanically have nothing to do with one another and even if taking a cat off is illegal it still has nothing to do with the tranny failing.

Speeding is illegal so do the dealers get to void your warranty when you speed?

What about having too dark of tint?

Or how about driving without insurance, can they void your warranty for that?

'Fraid not and thats what the Mag Moss protects you against.
THEY VOIDED MINE BECAUSE OF EXCISIVE SPEED. SO YES THEY CAN VOID IT FOR SPEEDING.

MY REAR WINDOW LEAKS AIR OVER 70 MPH (LOUD) THEY DIDN'T FIX THAT BEACUSE OF MY TINT.

They can void your warranty for any reason, and unless you have a good lawer and the time to go to court then your screwed...

Now this is not intended to be disrespectful of you Zack, but part of it is your age. They tend to be that way towards young people. Is in right? No F'ing way, but that's life.

It also depends on how you dress. Still not right, but just a fact of life.

I will give you an example. When I go Christmas shopping I usually dress up in a 3 piece suit. Why? Because if I'm in a crowded place they will help me before they will help the guy in jeans and a T-shirt.

This is not always the case, but it's true the majority of the time.

Sorry to hear how they are treating you. It should not make any difference who you are or how you look. Everyone should be treated the same.

I'd say you're right but it really appears that you are a young man that got bullied. It's not so much that the dealer was wrong but rather unethical.

I'm a stickler for rules but at the same time I would give someone the courtesy of telling them "I can't warranty your truck with these mods. Remove this and bring it back" By the same token I don't feel bad when someone does lose their warranty.

One guy I know, a real Christian, blew his motor doing burn-outs and spraying at the same time. That's a pretty stupid thing to do. Anyways, he cleaned his truck up and turned it in. They rebuilt his engine under warranty. I thought it was funny that someone so self-righteous and God-fearing would blatantly cheat a company out of thousands of dollars.

It may hurt your wallet now but you'll be a better man for being honest with yourself. I'd hate to compromise my integrigty and convictions for a few bucks.

He is right, 19 y.o. kid they took advatage of. I just dont have the time or money to screw with them. 2,000 for a lawer, or 2000 in parts and fix it right, by myself?

Do you all have selective reading skills? I didn't attack Bo. I pointed out that it could possible be resolved. Personally I don't think it will.

I also mentioned that each service manager acts at their own discretion. So good for you, Craig, that you haven't had problems. Even Mopar performance parts carry a disclaimer stating that your warranty can be affected.

Paddy;

They can not do a "blanket" void on warranty, they can only void certain sections of the warranty coverages.

As everyone here is stating changing the emissions systems would have corralation to the failure of the tranny...

The trannys in the QCs here all allready known to have been a weak spot with no mods.. hell mine at 6k miles showed heavy signs of wear and impending failure before I had to "hardened", and that was with only having headers and cat back for 3k miles...

The Magnuson Moss Act will be interpreted differently by every dealer rep, service manager or whomever.

I know the tranny's blow in this thing. Ha, no pun intended but that was awesome. SRT knows the tranny is crap. I side with the dealer on this one, though. It will all come down to their word against his. You have to look at it objectively. I know that cat-less mids won't kill his tranny. I know the tranny is a weak point in the truck. I also know that that cat-less mids are for "off-road use only". That's pretty much all they need to know. Step back and analyze the situation and what you have is this.

Like I said before, they hear the Magnuson Moss Act referenced ignorantly all the time. The just tune it out most of the time. If you're going to reference the Act you need to have all your ducks in a row.

And, BigRed, I side with you 100%.

In regard to the Cat-Less Mid's, I would not make to big of a fuss. All they need to do is turn you in and you will get your PEE PEE severly slapped by the federal boys.

Altering any emmission items on any vehicle is a Federal Offense. It does not matter a tinkers damn if you pass the emmissions test or not. It's been tampered with.

Just something to remember.

Guys, I wish I could have drove to ST. Louis and gotten it repaired. i bought the truck in NC, and live in AL. the District Manager is the DM for all the southeast, and well it is flagged in the system now, as of this morning. My whole truck is flagged.

I want to fight this ordeal to the max, because modding a truck with parts the dealer sells should not void the warrenty, I know I did not get them from the dealer, but it is the same parts. No CATS that is just a emissions factor, and not really a tranny issue.

The DM well I called the 1-800 number and no return calls from anyone. 14K miles on the truck and it is not under warranty anymore. I wish the chrysler dealer would have told me before they talked to the DM, I was needing it fixed since it is my only vehicle for now.

But on the other hand SRT Street Racing Technology, they should know you will mod your vehicle. you play with the big boys you pay like the big boys.

Lesson learned. I guess they figure since I have a $50K truck, I can afford to pay for repairs.

Well I have had a guy (Mike) from DymailerChrysler, and he is working with the DM and the service managers to try to get to a resolution.

No one was picking on me, so dont anyone worry.

... and we have a winner

When I asked if he thought 2,300 was alot of money to fix a 3 month old truck he replied...
service manger of Clear Lake Dodge said:
2,300 is alot of money to me but I don't own a viper truck.

Had this been a soccer mom suv they would have fixed it no question asked...

The only thing they can really do is void your emmisions warranty. I had a similar situation with GM one time we ended up going to mediation, i brought in expert witnesses.. all I had done was put in a CAI and Catback, noting else... and they tried voiding my entire engine and drivetrain warranty...

The car kept using tons of oil.... after fighting with them... they finnally admited the a certain run of LS1 engines had issues with bad rings... mine was one of them... so they fixed the issue and the problem went away... but it cost the dealer dearly in bad PR, etc...

Thats the reason I have decided not to modify My QC. It has 7 year warranty and I intend on using it. I am modifying my RC which I believe
is more receptive to modification.

STeve

ive run the shit out of mine with no problems, sounds like a internal problem with the tranny, a note to all qc guys make sure and keep the band adjusted if you run it much

Exactly. At the MAXIMUM they could void his emissions warranty for the catless.

And its on the DEALER to prove the change in catless mids caused his tranny failure NOT the other way around. Since we all seem to agree mids wont do that asking his dealer to prove this will be defeat for them.

This is why lemon law attorneys go after crap like this because they know they will win every time.

Update from the dealer....

burnt out the clutch and burnt out the bands. The service rep said it was run because of the broken bands. WTF, STREET RACING TECHNOLOGY (SRT). The transmission broke on it's own, not because of the mods and extra horsepower I put into it. Not like I have a SC or NOS on it.

Now they want to charge me $2800 for a rebuilt and still wont give me a warranty on it. I am thinking about just getting a better performaced tranny, any suggestions.. It will be like 5 days before the transmission is put back together.

I am still going to call (Mike) in DC warranty section and complain some. Not like these are cheap trucks and I can just go get a new one.
