yeah Why did chrylser change it to gear oil instead of atf?
Thick gear lube helps the overall Federal Noise standards, and they most likely got a deal on a million quarts.

made a 1079 on mine it was bone stock never had a problem only reason we built is because we planned on turning it up even more stock t56 will handle tons of power period

thats abou twhat the adapters run, not including the tranny mount , a new crossmember, shifter, cable, flywheel adapter, flywheel, driveshaft, yokes, cooler, adn a few other things

mainly it only being good for the strip, unless you do a gearvendor

I couldn't wait to have something with some power with a stick.:joyman:

And now you guys puttin' automatics in your trucks!:dontknow:

To each there own!:D :D :D

If we could only get a TH400 to work in our QC's then we would have a winner for the track.;) Also most guys that want the TH400 for the RC is for the track. The stick is more fun to drive around town but you can't outshift an automatic.

takes all the fun and skill out of an RC;)

I got a spare TH400 here in the garage...picked it up months ago.
I believe it is a Buick/Olds Bellhousing...but since your going to have to run an adapter...not sure how important it is to you.
My TH400 in the 454SS is a three speed, and I can tell you that you will probably want to run a gear vendors overdrive oon it ....if you do lots of highway driving.

If it were a 100% trailer/strip car, sure but there are some big # cars out there using the T56 (stock or modified) to handle power. It's fun and with practise can outshift an automatic, just not as consistent. For the quickest 0-60mph or 1/4 time a manual will 9.9/10 always be faster with what vehicles we have on the roads today, in some rare cases factory cars can beat a manual but it's a very small %. Just that an Auto will win more times as it's easier and more consistent where-as a manual needs to be hit from every which angle perfectly. That is one of the main reasons people prefer autos. No point getting a PB in the 1st round then missing a shift in the 2nd. You need to win rounds to win. At the end of the day it's your call, just do what makes you happy. One thing I like about manual transmissions is if you are good or bad at least you're having fun, that's what it's all about. As I like to say, you steer an Automatic. You drive a manual. Keep us posted. ;)

If a TH400 will go why not then a 4L60E?

Electronic 400 with an overdrive...........

Power handling/capability. 4L60E weak point is the sun gear assembly. Also you'll need to figure out the TCM controls to make it work. Maybe with upgrades a 4L60E can take 500HP reliably? :dontknow: My 4x4's 4L60E was upgrade for around 450HP, it includes a vette servo, transgo kit, upgrade friction disks, and another part (I don't recall the exact name) that fixes an output handling problem. The latter is something my trans guy developed and was in the process of getting patented.

buy a lightning bwhahahahahah

I lthink I'd rather lop off one of my nuts than to buy a mustang truck...... No offense to any of their owners.... but most of the owners I met were A$$holes.... So oh well

How much do the built 400s cost that everyone is talking about?

I mean you guys couldn't be talking about it in stock form.

I am unsure... my buddy's dad said he could do me a built tranny for $900 or so.... and he does nice work. But the only reason he'd do it for me is cuz of my buddy bein his son.....

If any of the guys wanting to do a three speed with the gear vendors do any kind of highway driving, are really going to miss their 6 speed real quick. Need to think about the differences in gear ratios in the trans also. If i would of known what i know now i would of installed a six speed. Besides using the G/V to split gears is harder than using a clutch to shift.

I have a question. Why the Chevy Trans? Would a built A-904 or 727 just be easier? I stuck one from Bob Mazzolini in a 72 dart with a built 360. Bob said it was good to 600hp. He said if I wanted it for more HP just run the 727.
The work he does to them is:

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS

* 904 STREET/STRIP: DEEP PAN, GOOD CLUTCHES, 5.0 LEVER, SHIFT KIT $599
* 904 STREET/STRIP: SAME AS ABOVE WITH 2.76 LOW GEAR $789
* 904 COMPETITION: SAME AS ABOVE WITH REVERSE MANUAL VALVE BODY $969
* 727 STREET/STRIP: DEEP PAN, GOOD CLUTCHES, 5.0 LEVER, SHIFT KIT $599
* 727 STREET/STRIP: SAME AS ABOVE WITH RACE BAND AND BOLT IN SPRAGUE $769
* 727 COMPETITION: SAME AS ABOVE WITH REVERSE MANUAL VALVE BODY $949
* Core Charge $100

Would it be a bolt on? He is in Riverside maybe I will drive to him and ask. The A904 would be lighter but the 727 would be bulletproof.
