twin turbo costs?

IDEA: coming off the end of the manifolds with pipe, up to the battery boxes and putting the flange on the end of the pipe. there would be some heat loss but it would be negligible.

so in parts i am only looking at 3,000 for the internals? then i can do 1000hp?
pistons: 1800 with rings
rods: 900
mains: 750

is that all?
i have rebuilt an engine, but never "built" an engine.

Looks like he got off pretty easy considering some of the pics that have been posted.

so your saying i should just s/c it for 5grand and be happy with a max 10psi? or 7 on stock...

i would love to do internals but wanted to save that for next year, or save it for after i blow up the first engine....
You'll have a smile from ear to ear and you should be fairly safe with the right tune.;)

I would not go with any type of forced induction without forging. The stock pistons just don't hold togeather. The block was not designed very good in my opinion. The water jackets do not cover the whole cycinder. With only 8psi and 10k on my forged motor my pistons were going and the back half of the motor showed signs of alot of heat. If your going to take it to the track, drag or road, you should upgrade the clutch and trans. Over 800 to 900 rwhp you should also upgrade the rearend. Good luck and have fun with your truck.

the clutch is high on my list, i like luk, not sure if they make one for this app yet. can i get away with ONLY pistons? or just spend the extra 1500 and finish the job? and the trans? was not aware of transmission problems, except not being able to shift from the factory to save its life.....

the other big question is: am i going to notice 100hp? 20%?

anyone here ever attempt an engine build themselves? i need something to do in January and February the two slowest months of the year in my job, and Florida is out this year....

i do appreciate ALL of your inputs and will not dismiss anything any of you say. i want to weigh everything before i move forward, thats why i am asking now and starting in about 6-8 weeks from now. and leaving myself 4 months to finish.
HELL YES!!!!! I notice every day on my way home.:D And, I haven't really got on it hard for an extended period.

If your in the engine that far, wouldn't you want to do rods, mains and such?
I know I would.

Ha Ha. Anybody here only spent $3k in parts? I've spent over $42k in parts and machine shop bills and counting. I have a employee (my fleet macanic ) do all the labor. More than one has spent over a $100k. I love my truck and am not done pissing away money on it but Viper motors are not cheap to play with.

thats why i want to do it. its fast.... for a truck.... i mean a 2000 v8 camero will run next to it stock VS stock. but i would like to be able to spank pretty much anything that pulls up next to me at the light, and most normal cars at the strip (damn rail car on the first run ever got me by 6 seconds.......)
but i think this is the next fun step. making my best friend jealous as heck only gives me a kick for so long.

HOLY HINDU CRAP! how do you spend 42K on a reworked pickup motor? for that pice couldn't you just start with a 8.4? then you would be at 600 starting number. or an viper old motor that was factory forged...

Thats the total I've spent including one new set of tires, lowering kit, drag radials and rims ect.

Roe $6500
Rods & pistons $3000
New pistons $1500
Fuel system $2500
Clutch $2000
Cam, rocker arms & valve cover spacers $2500
Puke tank SS lines $1500
The list goes on and on. Just ask my wife.

Why rods and pistons, then "new pistons"?

2500 for a fuel system? for 700hp?
not doubting you, however i might doubt your thriftiness....
and why did you buy pistons twice?
