My Runner-Extension Project on my Gen III Intake has been "looked at" by a few shops since last Fall. They all claimed they could do the mods I wanted (but none of them did).

The general consensus by the Intake Pros: "The mods will work in a limited RPM range"; which is what the mods I had planned were supposed to do anyway.

Over the past month, I've decided to leave the Gen III Intake alone and go with a brand new Custom Billet Intake specific to my engine's power profile.

It will be the most cost effective and performance effective plan as modified or not, the Gen III Intake was originally designed for a 500'ish hp engine and certain restrictions exist.

A 3 month turnaround to have a Billet Intake designed, CNC'd and welded up.

I'll post the results as things progress if anyone other than myself is interested. :)

They say good things come to those who wait.

Pretty cool what can be done by juggling port length (tapered or not tapered), plenum volume and shape, entry radius and angle, TB mouth shape, volume and length, entry split design, fuel injector angle, depth, etc.

    "Tuning" at it's finest.

I got the new Nittos mounted on a pair of OEM 22" wheels.
Sticky little buggers (except right now with the hailstorm outside).
Now I'll have to change the launch strategy all over again.

Because they are the "proper" height, they are supposed to be good for a 3-1/2 to 4 mile per hour trap speed increase over the M&H Racemaster drag radials I've been using..

    WOOOHOOO !!!

Knees are still there. Seem to spend most of my time doing exercises. The rest of the time being lazy. Just been out in the Beast and have prepped for car show tomorrow. I am hoping to start getting some more parts for the truck soon. A catch can and an under drive pulley first then a gear lever that works. Bled the clutch the other day. It made some difference but it still pushes the thrust bearing back and when you push the clutch pedal it's only half there. Have to pump it up to change gear. Even if you rev it in the driveway the pedal disappears. I wonder if the spring is broken? If I drive sedate it is no problem. It only does it at revs.
Winter is here -3 this morning but nice sunny day 10. Truck loves the cold air.

Hopefully those two things will let it be dyno tuned to the best. May have to replace head gaskets first.
Being at sea level it should be good.

A Dyno (PROPERLY CALIBRATED FOR A TEST) references SAE J1349 which uses (if I remember) 77F, a little above 29" Hg and zero percent humidity. This also kinda-sorta approximates seal-level by default.

So...If you are testing in a high-altitude area, or a low area, hot or chilly, humid or dry, low or high barometric pressure, the dyno SHOULD provide the same corrected number regardless of where the testing is being done or what the weather conditions may be.

Many Dyno facilities will use a weather station so accurate information can be programmed into the Dyno before the test.

Unfortunately if bogus numbers are Input, it also provides a cheat and can drive horsepower numbers artificially high.
For example: Ambient temperature at the Dyno is actually 75F but the Operator "tells" the Dyno it is 140F. The dyno will use a more aggressive correction factor and spit out a high(er) power number to correct for the hot ambient conditions. That is only ONE of the ways a Dyno (and some people near it) can be fooled.

The dyno numbers people see (without an Operator fudging any Input parameters) are corrected for sea-level and represent "best case" power numbers.

Then there are the Dynos themselves with Dynojets being generous compared to say a Mustang Dyno aka "The Heartbreaker" which tends to spit out lower power numbers.

Everybody makes 1000 horsepower these days anyway, so Dynos aren't even needed anymore. ;)

I am not being greedy. It had some previous owner put a 600hp badge on the back. I need to get it there. I am hoping with the coils, leads and Torrie tune on my 100+ RON we can tweak the tune to get it across the line. I don't have an SCT Tuner. My Torrie tune came in a HP Tuner and VCM Suite in my lap top. I have no idea how to use it but I am sure any tuner should be able to make small adjustments. I can change between tunes but the rest is all abbreviations and leaves me cold

    Gooday:

Tunes created by one Tuner are typically locked files and can't be tweaked by another.

Dodge controllers (JTEC controllers) used on our trucks are notoriously hard to properly tune.

The tables that are changed (typically fuel and timing) can affect other areas in the tune that an inexperienced Tuner would swear they "never touched".

Ignition timing has a direct affect on engine torque. That is where most of the power will come from in a naturally aspirated engine tune. Turbo-gas and Turbo-diesel power gains are often more dramatic as now you can tweak boost and fuel (and ignition timing in the case of gasoline engines).

The goal is to provide enough ignition timing with your truck's tune to increase torque (cylinder pressure) WITHOUT entering into detonation (engine killer).

Contact Torrie and explain to him what you have (HP and VCM) and he should be able to assist.

    600+ here we come!!

I figure the catch can should help with any detonation issues. I used to take all breathers off my older vehicles and vent to ground rather than pollute the air intake. There's an imaginery 5hp there lol

    True Dat.

Oil vapours do have a low flashpoint.

Our engines don't use a PCV system so a well-designed catch-can helps with pesky vapours and sludge.

They also keep the oil fresher, longer. I used to think it was blow-by that darkened oil but it's actually heat. Well, it's BOTH, but heat darkens it in a very short time.
