Does the noise change in any way (pitch, volume, etc.) when the engine is rev'd or at idle? Is the drive belt worn? I'm wondering if the tensioner or idler pulley could be the problem?

I have the OE Hurst that came out of my truck, virtually brand new. The only shifter knob I have left is the Hurst T-handle. I'll let that go with the shifter if you're interested.
