BigRed460's build thread

Thank guys, it sucks but it is what it is, I'll rebuild her again.

running truck +15k = blown up truck.

Yes i am running stock (ported) heads.

What did you se as far as oily film on all parts? Was it dry as it looks?
We've recently found an issue with pressure relief valves and there's an updated version out there. When you get a chance pull it from driver side of timing cover and look for metal in there. It can jam up and either have way too much oil pressure......or none :(

I think you may have a point there, when I pulled my heads it was a oily, watery mess, each cylinder had a pool of oil and water, up around the lifters there was oil everywhere... even after wiping down and cleaning up there was still a ton of oil mess....

Another question I wonder is if they used a deck plate while boring? Surely so but makes me wonder.

It was an oiley watery mess when I first got the head off. I cleaned everything up and then wanted to see it turn over so i hooked the starter up and hit the button, that sprayed fuel all over because I didnt pull the fuel pump relay. That why it looks so clean once the pics were taken. All the stuff cleaned up nice with some gas on it, it only made it roughly 10 miles and less than an hour of total run time.

I was told a torque plate was used durring boring.

I have a video start to finish on every time the motor was started and running at my house, I have vids of all the gauges to. oil pressure, oil temp and water temp were all good the whole time.

Did you decide to reuse the stock heads?

Yes I did, the hope right now is that I left a lot of room in the bore, so the block might be salvageable. The pistons I wont know till I see them. I'll know more tomorrow once I get the block back out.

If a torque plate was not used the block is a goner ,on a 10 motor it will warp the crap out of it .,I would watch real close in video to see if one is put on before boring , and make sure he used a 10 TQ plate .I seen a guy rebuilding sim333 truck and he was planning on using a 350 plate and flipping it to do other cylinder ,I freaked out and walked out of there .

I did see that earlier post I was just saying to look at that vid and see if it is there if that part was filmed ;).
Darn ten blocks are hard to find

running the motor was filmed by me, not the short block build.

But I did get her out after work today, I have tomorrow off so I will pull the other head and finish disassembly. Should know the exact issue tomorrow...

Other side of the motor looks the same... cylinder walls are scrapped up bad.

Still not thinking it was oil starvation?
Almost sounds to me they did not get all the metal shavings from bore and/or when he did heads there was some metal dust or real small shavings got into oil passages . Did you check valve in timing cover to see if it was stuck open ?

I just got around to reading the last five pages... holy crap!!! This makes me soooo nervous about doing a build!!!! Sorry you have to go through this Bro!

They have the motor back, with out a doubt they think that it some how ingested some foreign material. I have to send them some more stuff to inspect. Oil and water problem were eliminated bearings look ggod and oil is un burnt

Why wouldn't the oil look good if it wasn't pumped through the engine?

Its just racing bro, sometimes stuff doesn't work out. This truck will run again, and hopefully soon. I am not a patient person.

The oil starvation problem has been eliminated because the bearings and lack of burn marks on anything. The builder has said the damage is focused above the rings. Oil starvation/water problems would lead to heat or burn mark somewhere.

Right now not to bad looking another set of pistons and a fresh bore, the problem is I need an exact cause before I put her back together
