emissions, am I screwed?

No word from the dealer yet. He said if he didn't hear anything today he would know monday for sure.

Been looking into fixing or replacing the pcm.

Found 2 places so far, viper store and viper specialty performance.
Looks like viper store will refurb the ecm for around $600 or sell you an new one for $32 - 3400.
Viper specialty will sell you a refurb for $1800 plus a core fee.

If I gotta go this route, has anyone dealt with either of these places before and have any feedback?

The Viper Store sells stuff on ebay. They actually have those ECM's on ebay, so you can at the very least check out there ebay store and view ratings from others that have used them.

I'm definitely hoping to avoid $1800 for a refurb
 
Dealer called

Said they have gotten evap to pass, and so far it hasn't thrown a code.
They think the pcm is definitely the problem, but think they can get it to pass emissions and are taking it over on thursday.

If all goes well, I'll have my truck back.
Will still need to fix the pcm, but I'll have 2 years before its due again, so it wont be that bad.

I dont remember, but did you ever take it to the dealer to begin with? Im just curious as you've been going through this for months. If you didnt take it to the dealer to begin with was there a reason why?
 
Thanks everyone, been a long road to an answer, but hopefully we're almost there.
I don't want to get my hopes up yet, but I do have my fingers crossed :)

Hopefully if this is it, sometime, somewhere down the road this will help the next guy figure out the issue.

Dealer was the first place I went, they looked at it and tried to force the monitors, couldn't, and handed it back saying "nothing wrong, it needs to be driven" ...in the middle of winter

So I drove. ..and drove...and nothing.

That's when I went to the other shop.
you know how it goes from there.

I guess you just have to get it into the right hands, believe me, I'm writing down this guys name and requesting him next time.

So final update:

Shop took truck into emissions and passed!

They talked to a contact provided by the emissions station, and were told that it's not uncommon for o2 heaters to not show as ready for whatever reason.
They were previously able to force the evap test and get it to set, and since I'm allowed 1 not ready the truck passed.

If I remove the battery or flash a program its possible the heater test won't run again and will prevent the evap as well, but if that's the case I can bring it back and have them do their thing again to get me through.
A shop fee is a lot better than springing for another pcm.

Should have the truck back today or Monday. Waiting on an AC line that needed to be replaced...after that I think the mods will resume :)
 
when i lived in Wa. state i remember if the vehical was 10 or so years old and you took it to a repair shop and the shop couldnt make it smog legal then the shop fills out a form that you take to the inspection station showing that you paid to have it legal but the shop couldnt do it then they would pass it, the cost for the form was 250.00 but probably worth it.
 
They kinda do that here. If you spend $450 and it doesn't fix it then you can apply for a waiver, but it's only good fir 2 years.

Shop called and it's done...ouch is all I can say.
$875 for the emissions work and ac line parts/repair/recharge, plus $101 for registration, and $250 for the last shop.

Grand total of $1226. The wife is taking it well...too, too well...I should probably be worried. ..

Well, it was either that or you would have a nice 5200lb paper weight in your driveway. How long has your truck been down?

30 minutes later I got a call from them.

They said they were able to force the evap, but there was erratic voltage on the downstream o2's. Since the o2's test first it wouldn't allow evap to set.

They said it's likely a wiring or ground issue with tbe downstream o2's, or possibly a pcm issue.
They're going to let me know soon.

Wow after just 30 min too...said that they have their SRT guy working on it and he's seen it before, but holy crap not even an hour into it and they actually have a clue.

Guess the dealer isn't so bad sometimes.

Yeah the whole thing kinda sucks. You WANT to trust people and give them the benefit of the doubt, but these days it's all too common for the worst to be true.

Yeah the dealership charged a heafty amount, but they DIDN'T put 2000 miles on my truck, and they did what needed to be done to get the truck passed in less than 2 weeks...and still apologized for taking that long!

The service advisor I delt with knew the right people to hand it to and took care of me every step of the way.
He's definitely going into the call this guy" book!

I'll happily pay the dealer fee for a reasonable time frame and results.
