Winter project time!

Still at it today, it's just too nice not to be in the garage.

So far i have the t stat cover back on, and loaded with a new 170 degree t stat, valve covers back on and tourqued too (torqueing was definitely an adventure), had to (err...got to) buy a new torque wrench for the inch pounds, but i totally scored for black friday at sears. $30 down from $70!

Everything going back on with fresh stainless allens (courtesy of Justin)

After that i worked on cleaning up the hose and cable routing by the fan, and i should have the upper radiator hard pipe in soon.

Been a good day so far!

Nice its a good motivator for me to start buying parts :D

I was able to get a little done before work this morning. The battery is back from the dead, so i was able to play with the led's some, and finish running the under intake lighting.
I'm planning on having about 6 banks of led's, so i ordered a barrier strip off of amazon. I'll have to wait for that before i can complete the wiring.
I figure I'll run each bank to its own terminal on the barrier strip, and with all the pos/neg terminals jumpered together (respectively) run that to the wireless controller.
Last thing i want is to have a hard soldered harness and have to fix a failure in a couple years. This should make troubleshooting or rewiring a breeze.

Been a really busy week at work, but i tried to get some done here and there.

I figured out the final placement of the led's and taped them into place, then ran out the rough wiring to the terminal block.
After that i soldered the wiring to the led strips, sleeved, and covered the solder joints and sleeve ends with heat shrink.

After an alcohol rub, i mounted the leds and concealed the wire runs.

About halfway done here:

Mounted the TB under and behind the battery box, ran the wires and mad the connections.

Looks great Chris. Really does.

But did you know that Heat is the LED killer? If those will be living in the belly of the beast, it won't matter whether they are on or off, the constant heat of the block will cook the diodes either slowly one by one or just fry your circuit board all at once.

Sounds good man. Good job. :)

What are you planning for CAI and CC?

Thanks man!

I'll have to see what happens. I know a lot of guys on the circuit that haven't had a lot of problems, but we'll see.
That's one of the reasons i ran individual runs to the block. That way i can strip out and repair any failed ones.
As for the circuit board, i have it mounted as far away from the heat as i can be, so I'm pretty sure it'll be ok.

the ones in my club also have had theirs for a couple of years and no troubles yet either, i think the quality is getting better on them

We see a lot of guys install LEDs in the bike business. Some mount them only about 1" away from an air cooled engine. On a summer day they get hot as hell. They usually work OK as long as the pod or strip don't physically melt from the heat.

I have justins cai and cc, hopefully I'll get them mounted today. Just got off a 16 hr shift so im about to crash out.

Almost forgot to mention, i picked up some new battery terminals, have to put those on too. Unfortunately the factory cables arent gonna be long enough, so ill have to run new ones. Not looking forward to that. That wire isn't cheap.

moving the battery??

moving the battery??

No, just need a few inches of slack on the negative cables.
I think positive might be alright, but neg won't reach with the new terminals. Factory terminals are pretty long, and the connection to the body comes in from the opposite end as the frame and engine grounds, and it'll barely reach as it is.
I'm going to probably need about another 4 inches on the frame and engine, and another 10 to 12 on the body ground to make it look right, any less and ill have really tight wires and id have to have the terminal sideways with 90 degree bends on the wires. Not good.

Or you can do a clean splice with crimps and shrink wrap. Should be way cheaper and less of a headache.

Idk, maybe. I don't really want to do butt splices if i can help it, and 6 and 8 gauge are a little big to solder.
Looks like the positive leads are gonna be short too after closer inspection.
