Flyinglow- I was also planin on buying a new jerry can and using it to mix the acetone with a gallon or two, and then putting it in my tank. Then I was thinking that I would have to carry the jerry can with me whenever I needed gas.(which is a pain because I dont have a bed cover, and I'm not putting it in the cab.) But at the same time, I wouldnt feel comfortable carrying volatile chemicals in the cab or outside of the truck, as the FL sun makes the interior like an oven.

O well looks like I'm gonna have to take a special trip just to feed the beast. Wonder if anyone is gonna bother me even more when they see me at the gas station with my jerry can, measurement beaker, and bottle of acetone. Then when Ipump gas into the jerry can, then acetone, then pouring that in the truck, then more gas directly in the truck:dontknow:
Those Viper truck guys sure are a crazy bunch:star:

I wouldn't keep the stuff in my truck either. You just have to think ahead and bring the stuff for when you are going to fuel. So far I don't have anything. I need to find the acetone, then a gas can then something to measure the oz with. Looks like I will be shoping this weekend.

Ok test mule is our 2000 94k mile blazer XR2 4X4 auto V-6 Vortec --

Wanted to try this stuff in a hurry and didn't have a small jerry can and already had a full tank. So... I stopped at NAPA and got a large funnel, a gallon of lacquer paint reducer used by body shops ( AKA 100% acetone per label) - stopped at local Alco and got a 4 ounce glass measuring beaker

Before test MPG was 18.8 Tank is 19.9 gals so I put in 8 oz of Acetone in tank via funnel. Rocked and rolled the Blazer back and forth to mix the tank. Then drove 10 miles home at 60 MPH in a 50 zone and mileage went from 18.8 to 21.2 mpg - 2.4 mpg increase = not to shabby. Will still do a couple of tankful testing and we probably won't drive the Blazer again till Tuesday but looks like its working. With this many miles on the vehicle, I couldn't tell if it ran any smoother since the suspension is pretty stiff in it but I was pleasantly surprised

Around town MPG has gone up almost a full point, with a little less than 2oz per 10 gallons. Going to go up a lil to 3 oz and see what happens.

I'm using about 2 oz for 10 gallons also and it looks like about a 1 MPG gain. After this tank I will shoot for a 3:10 ratio.

Another place to score pure acetone is at the pharmacy. Check the nail polish aisle for different types of removers. DO NOT use the scented ones. Look for the clear bottles and make sure the label says "100% pure acetone".

For those not wanting to invest in gallons and just try out the acetone test, this might be the way to go.

If you read the article posted by rotten. It actually mentions mythbusters in there as providing fake results. Another words they were supposedly not using pure Acetone. It also goes into talking about other forms of additives that they are testing to get better mileage with.

i put acetone in my durango for my road trip this weekend. I averaged 18.5 mpg and that includes going through the grapevine at 75mph. this truck has been getting 14-16 mpg average it's whole life on every other road trip so I'll have to say that acetone did work. I put 4 oz in the tank (22 gal or so)

    That's a pretty good gain!!

I wonder if there is a difference between 4 bangers and v-8s. Is one engine more susceptible to gains than the other?

I have been in contact with the author and it seems like he is totally on the level. Not to mention he was attending University at age 13 !!!

PURITY of the Acetone is very important; as is the quantity added.
A quote from the article: "DO NOT BUY ACETONE FROM DRUGSTORES"
