A lot of talk about weight reduction lately, figured I would bump this so others that missed it would see it and also give Venomous1 the opportunity to update any new weights. :D

What purpose does the metal cover on the side of the fuel tank serve?

I don't think it is close enough to the exhaust to be a heat shield.

Thar's for sure. Maybe it's to dampen fuel pump sound or protection in case of a driveshaft failure?

I don't think it's that bad from the factory though. Most of his weight reduction has been in the rear. Either way 4,500 lbs is impressive and I have personally seen his truck hook hard in person.

nope, that's everyday(plus or minus fuel) race weight is about another 150 lighter for wheels. I don't change anything else for racing.

with me in it and a full tank of fuel, the toolbox and a few odds and ends was 5600#...

3/4 tank of fuel is what... 150# or so... i'm about 200#... plus the toolbox and whatever i had in it... i never removed all that crap when i raced...

same as me racing at a red light... it was the same at the track...

True there! A toolbox doesn't weigh a lot but the contents add up fast !!
Proud to say the Venomous QC is at 4900 street weight!! Gas light on and minus me. Sheds another 125 lbs with Slicks and skinnies. Still have sway bars and a few other things I'll she'd for race night ;)

Has anyone truly distinguished the weight difference on the 06's? Im supposed to be going to the track for the first time this weekend. Just picked up my truck this morning after having the rear end rebuilt. I will be dropping the spare and removing the Jack and tools. Everything else will stay on, including my factory tonneau. Any guesses on weight? I weigh 220.

leave your spare... especially for your first time... IMO it helps more than it hurts...
