Regular Cab Automatic Conversion?

That kit does look OK but in a conversion like this or anything for the matter, cheaper isn't always the best route to go. I'd hate to see anyone pay for this then finding they have to turn around and buy a Donato kit. Looks OK though and is a good price but you have to wonder. A good converter will set you back $700-$900+ so looking at the rest of the kit if the converter is any good it's realistically a $900-$1,000 kit? vs. Johns $2,295. People don't sell at a loss so I'm guessing the quality of his stuff isn't as good. Having said that, it'll probably be OK but I'll let someone else try it first and see how they like it. :p Keep in mind that's for a TH400 so it may or may not fit a 4L80E.

Just got off the phone with Carl Rossler. Long talk but it really did help me with my decision and with what trans will work etc.

Hopefully this info will help others now and in the future who are considering/doing a similar swap. :)

I've spent a fair amount of time on the phone with Carl myself (and spent a bit of money ;) ). No way you can go wrong with his builds. Absolutely rock solid stuff.

I like where you're going with this. I have a TH400 trans good for about 2000hp built by one of his Canadian competitors (Hutch Trans) that I've hung on to for the truck. His 4L80E's sounds like like a nice alternative for street and strip applications.

Gotta say, I'm tempted to moving forward with the same program with my ride as well.;)

Very happy for you

Dropping one of those 1000hp handling babies out of a stock 200hp 6.5 truck now to get rebuilt. I guess too little hp will kill it. :)

Notice he said: "Known" which means can and not ALL of them. Anything man made can be destroyed, heck, a few Neutral bomb drops will kill even the stoutest transmissions, you're not supposed to do that but some dropkicks do - nothing is bulletproof, nothing. ;) Also depends on how it's been treated, regular oil changes, thrashed, etc.

What are the plans as far as the shifter goes? Modify the center console to fit a auto shifter? A version like a B&M, TCI, etc? or a version from a stock vehicle like someone else did with a shifter from a Ford?

Mine is pretty basic, I won't reveal all of my build plans until mine is done but in short it'll be a cable shifter and I'll get a custom fabricated set up so the shifter comes through the stock manual boot. Should look like a manual set up still with the function of a racing prep auto. :D The shifter really is the easiest part of the whole set up, with cables you can pretty much mount them anywhere you like and set them up to suit, just comes down to what style of shifter you like. Gate, detent, ratchet, detent/ratchet, air/electric.......:)

Update:

Got my Carl Rossler Terminator-4 spec transmission today!!   aka "The Batmission" lol :D It definitely looks the part, can't wait to get the Donato kit (should be tomorrow) and install this bad boy. We're changing a few things in the interior (console/trans related), nothing major. My goal is to keep it subtle, classy and appear as though it "could" have been factory. Won't go into detail, will keep it hush until it's complete, all I can say is, I can't wait and it's going to kick ass (even if I do say so myself). :D We'll get this completed around early to mid July, obviously, no rush, quality first. A couple of custom touches will hold us back a little for sure but worth doing IMO. We've got the pedals in, swapped (piece of piss) and the interior out (doors off, console out etc) good fun! ;) This will be the last update until it is completed. Photos below. :)

Cheers,
Carl

The Precision Torque Converter. These guys build good shit but why THAT colour!?!? lol
As Long as it performs and does it job, I don't care. It's not seen once in place.

Hey! Um, not 100% sure, to be honest, you've probably heard more than me about it. I haven't heard jack shit  no one has mentioned anything about it on the news, papers, word by mouth, sorry bud. But, if you do come down, I have a Robin costume with your name on it......we can spend a night in The BATRAM protecting Wellington city together...........:D

Yup, sure did. No other way Admin would know how to find and clean out all the pages of dribble without bringing it to their attention. Quite simply really. ;)
