You will NEVER get the smell out. I remember watching a show one time on buying a used car/truck. They said not only the smell is bad, but that the smoke will have gotten into the stitching, the electronics, any glue holding up the headliner, etc, etc. Their advice was "Find another one and walk away". It's the worst thing you can do to ruin a vehicle.
Thats the biggest line of bs ive ever heard,,
once its been smoked in, it will always have the smell, even if you swap the interior, it gets into the heater vents, the ac unit,,
all of it has to be swaped out,, so new vents, new ducting, new heater etc... Dash must be pulled apart and all the surfaces chemically cleaned , its a disaster,, and then when the interior is out you must use some harsh chemicles on the paint under the interior to get the smell off that.. once that is all done, your good to go...
so if you dont like the smell i would not do it.. you will never get it out..
You're both wrong. My '01 Dakota was owner by a heavy smoker. I did spend a good amount of time cleaning but, I did not remove or replace one piece of that interior and no one can tell it was ever smoked in. See my post mentioning vinegar.
